You are right that this is a scam.
This is mainly a social media scam that can lead to personal information loss or even stolen money and credentials if you fill out any surveys or transfer money. You can avoid the message and not respond to the sender, report the message to Facebook or other social network administrators.
In most cases, if you haven't pressed on any buttons and downloaded anything from the promotional content and other redirects, related to the scam, there are no threats on the machine. However, the scam may be caused by the potentially unwanted program already installed on the machine.
For that reason, you should get the reputable anti-malware program and fully scan the system to ensure that all the threats get removed and the machine is thoroughly cleaned. This way you can improve the performance if any PUP caused issues already.
Sincerely,
