Hi, I have just received a pop-up message/window that is called Critical System Failure. This phony-looking message looks like this:
Compromised windows security
please call technical support (number)
computer id: [id]
response code: [empty box]
Ok so what does this mean? This message does not seem trustworthy to me. Maybe my computer is infected with some suspicious virus that sends these messages to me?
Thanks for reaching out! Your thoughts are correct - the computer system is definitely infected with a virus, just not with one that this suspicious pop-up message informs you about. Critical System Failure virus is a malware that attempts to scare computer users and force them to call technical support scammers. These scammers aim to sell rogue software, swindle money from naive people, or even gain remote access to the system to contaminate it with more serious malware. We have just prepared an article dedicated to this malware, where you can find instructions on how to remove Critical System Failure pop-ups for good.
