removal by Lucia Danes - - | Type: Adware

AVBoost ads might be hiding cyber threats

AVBoost is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that might arrive on the system as an optional component in a software package. This application is promoted as a Settings Manager to control the volume and brightness of the device, turn off wifi, take screen shots and set timer. However, apart from this features it also displays intrusive and aggressive online ads that might show up in the form of pop-up, in-text, banner and any other possible form of the online ads. AVBoost adware seems to be related to Settings Manager by Aztec Media Inc pop-up virus. After the installation, this ad-supported program modifies browser’s settings and might employ “virtual layer” to display ads on each visited website. These ads usually promote high-risk Internet sites (e.g. gaming, adult-themed sites), provide fake software updates (e.g. Adobe Flash) or other questionable products and services. Apart from this annoying activity, adware is also capable of initiating redirects to promotional sites as well. These redirects might appear when users start typing a particular address in the URL bar or out of sudden. Undoubtedly, this activity diminishes browsing experience significantly. But it might also be dangerous. Thus, we recommend scanning the computer with ReimageIntego and going for automatic AVBoost removal. It’s the only possible way to avoid cyber threats.

AVBoost redirect problems are one of the biggest concerns related to this potentially unwanted application. Adware might display commercial content that redirects users to infected, tech support scam, phishing, and other high-risk sites where cyber criminals are waiting for the next victims. These ads might offer fake software updates, give misleading alerts of detected viruses and suggest to download unknown security or PC optimization tools. Clicking these ads might end up with ransomware, Trojan or other malware[1] attacks. The problem is that it might be hard to avoid commercial content provided by AVBoost. Ads are usually flashy, eye-catchy, aggressive and try to get user’s click no matter what. Sometimes they do not have a close button, or it still redirects to the sponsored website. There’s no doubt that the only safe and effective way to escape this add attack is to remove AVBoost from the computer. For more information, scroll down to the end of the article where you will find illustrated removal guidelines.

Bundling – the main distribution strategy of the adware

The AVBoost virus cannot infiltrate computers individually. It needs help and assistance from other programs and computer’s owner. Developers of this PUP apply questionable software marketing method known as “bundling.” This technique allows adding the program to software package as an “optional download.” Indeed, users can unpack the software and reject installation of undesired apps. However, people rarely does that. The majority of them rely on Quick/Recommended installation mode that does not openly disclose about third-party software. Thus, AVBoost hijack might be the result of the incorrect installation of the program.[2] Undoubtedly, there’s a way to avoid PUPs. It’s called Advanced/Custom installation wizard. This setup allows seeing the list of additional programs and allows stopping them from entering the system. Users just have to untick pre-selected entries and click “Next” button to complete the installation of a necessary program.

Protect your privacy – employ a VPN

There are several ways how to make your online time more private – you can access an incognito tab. However, there is no secret that even in this mode, you are tracked for advertising purposes. There is a way to add an extra layer of protection and create a completely anonymous web browsing practice with the help of Private Internet Access VPN. This software reroutes traffic through different servers, thus leaving your IP address and geolocation in disguise. Besides, it is based on a strict no-log policy, meaning that no data will be recorded, leaked, and available for both first and third parties. The combination of a secure web browser and Private Internet Access VPN will let you browse the Internet without a feeling of being spied or targeted by criminals.

No backups? No problem. Use a data recovery tool

If you wonder how data loss can occur, you should not look any further for answers – human errors, malware attacks, hardware failures, power cuts, natural disasters, or even simple negligence. In some cases, lost files are extremely important, and many straight out panic when such an unfortunate course of events happen. Due to this, you should always ensure that you prepare proper data backups on a regular basis.

If you were caught by surprise and did not have any backups to restore your files from, not everything is lost. Data Recovery Pro is one of the leading file recovery solutions you can find on the market – it is likely to restore even lost emails or data located on an external device.
