Kracir.live uses deception tactics to make people believe their system is infected

Kracir.live is a deceptive website that attempts to trick users into believing that their computer is infected with multiple viruses. Crooks have disguised the page as a McAfee security alert, a well-known antivirus suite. McAfee, on the other hand, has nothing to do with this fraudulent campaign, and the crooks are only using their name to appear credible and believable.

Fraudsters use devious social engineering techniques^[1] to entice people to visit their website. They have created a bogus system scan animation, which produces false results indicating that the machine is infected with viruses. The primary goal of this scam is to direct users to the official McAfee page because crooks are compensated for each installation through the affiliate program.

However, the fake website may begin spamming users with push notifications that appear to be security alerts. Fraudsters may use rogue advertising networks to place advertisements that lead to dangerous websites. Scam sites can trick people into providing personal information, downloading PUPs (potentially unwanted programs),^[2] and even malware.

Distribution methods

Pages like Kracir.live are rarely found in search results. They usually hide on other shady sites where they engage in illegal activities. Illegal streaming pages, peer-to-peer file-sharing networks, and Torrent websites are examples of this. Because they are unregulated, they are full of deceptive advertisements and sneaky redirects.

We advise you to avoid pages that you do not know and trust. Do not click on random links and advertisements. Be cautious of phony “Download” and “Play” buttons. Use legitimate streaming platforms such as Netflix or Hulu, which charge a small monthly subscription fee and allow you to watch as much content as you want.

Disable push notifications

Google Chrome (desktop):

Check the browser for malicious extensions

Windows 10/8:

1. Enter Control Panel into Windows search box and hit Enter or click on the search result.
2. Under Programs, select Uninstall a program.
3. From the list, find the entry of the suspicious program.
4. Right-click on the application and select Uninstall.
5. If User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
6. Wait till uninstallation process is complete and click OK.

Windows 7/XP:

1. Click on Windows Start > Control Panel located on the right pane (if you are Windows XP user, click on Add/Remove Programs).
2. In Control Panel, select Programs > Uninstall a program.
3. Pick the unwanted application by clicking on it once.
4. At the top, click Uninstall/Change.
5. In the confirmation prompt, pick Yes.
6. Click OK once the removal process is finished.

Mac:

1. From the menu bar, select Go > Applications.
2. In the Applications folder, look for all related entries.
