Is Watchvideo.net ads dangerous?
From our report of Mar 2021 · not reviewed since
Watchvideo.net – a website that tries to trick people into allowing its notifications by confirming that they're not robots
Watchvideo.net is an adware-type website that aims to deceive people into enabling push notifications by clicking the Allow button as thus proving that they're not robots.
Legitimate pages might provide a puzzle, or a captcha code, or any similar sensible method to verify that a user is human.
This is a very sneaky method to make people accept notifications. If the website visitors are tricked into pressing the Allow button, their devices are immediately infected with the virus, and they're in for a ride full of deceptive advertisements.
It won't matter if their browser is opened or closed. Various pop-up ads, banners, surveys, and other types of ads will be constantly shown. Furthermore, additional pages or random redirects will happen to third-party sites that are promoted by the Watchvideo.net adware. So please don't visit the site and under no circumstances press the Allow button on it.
Due to the cunning installation technique and the ads that are shown afterward, Watchvideo.net is categorized as a potentially unwanted program, or PUP for short. These types of applications are also capable of gathering browser-related data, such as geolocations, IP addresses, search inquiries, and so on.
The pop-up and other ads that are shown by Watchvideo.net might be deceptive and redirect users to websites with questionable or even malicious content. The users might be pushed to install other PUPs, like browser hijackers, such as mysearch.com virus, 123Search, TopYea Search, and others.
That being said, it is unsafe to visit such sites, or even worse - allow its push notifications. If you were tricked into pressing the Allow button, then go to the bottom of this article, where we provide detailed instructions on how to remove it from all types of browsers and devices.
These types of PUPs that can spread via freeware installations also can come in bundles, so you might need to find more intruders than this Watchvideo.net alone. There are many ways that you may trigger the injection without knowing, unfortunately. PUP developers can be very sneaky when it comes to threat distribution.
Research shows, that these pre-bundled packs can be downloaded not only from shady software vendors but from legitimate sites too, as one of them had PUPs in 31 out of 50 of it's most popular downloads. So the burden of not getting these apps fall on the shoulders of the users.
Remember to use reliable anti-malware software such as or to check for any additional PUPs or suspicious files. After Watchvideo.net virus removal, cybersecurity experts at Virusai.lt recommend scanning the whole system with the or similar system repair tools to fix any system issues.

Sneaky installation techniques used by PUP creators
Potentially unwanted programs can get installed on your device in several ways.
One of them is deceptive ads that spread PUPs by suggesting that your software is out of date or any other nonsense. The other one and our research show that it's the most popular one is through freeware or software bundles.
These packs always contain installers for more than one application. And all boxes agreeing to install the additional programs, which usually are PUPs, are always pre-ticked. So if a user chooses the Standard, Recommended, or Quick installation option, all apps within the bundle are installed on the device.
But luckily, it's easy to avoid these applications. Computer users have to be attentive to what is installed on their devices by choosing Advanced, Custom installation mode when installing software from a bundle and deselect all the pre-ticked boxes from apps they don't want, don't know, don't trust, or didn't even know would be installed in the first place.

Stop browser notifications
Choose a proper web browser and improve your safety with a VPN tool
Online spying has got momentum in recent years and people are getting more and more interested in how to protect their privacy online.
One of the basic means to add a layer of security - choose the most private and secure web browser. Although web browsers can't grant full privacy protection and security, some of them are much better at sandboxing, HTTPS upgrading, active content blocking, tracking blocking, phishing protection, and similar privacy-oriented features.
However, if you want true anonymity, we suggest you employ a powerful VPN - it can encrypt all the traffic that comes and goes out of your computer, preventing tracking completely.
Lost your files? Use data recovery software
While some files located on any computer are replaceable or useless, others can be extremely valuable.
Family photos, work documents, school projects - these are types of files that we don't want to lose. Unfortunately, there are many ways how unexpected data loss can occur:
- power cuts
- Blue Screen of Death errors
- hardware failures
- crypto-malware attack
- even accidental deletion
To ensure that all the files remain intact, you should prepare regular data backups. You can choose cloud-based or physical copies you could restore from later in case of a disaster. If your backups were lost as well or you never bothered to prepare any, can be your only hope to retrieve your invaluable files.
Questions about Watchvideo.net ads
watchvideo.net keeps sending notifications. Is it a virus?
No. Notifications from watchvideo.net come from a permission stored in the browser, not from a program installed in Windows. Someone clicked Allow on a prompt from that site, usually without realising what it meant, and the site now sends ads through the browser's notification system.
Antivirus scans often find nothing because there is nothing to find on the disk. Removing watchvideo.net from the browser's list of allowed sites stops the messages for good. A scan is still useful if you clicked a notification and downloaded or ran something from the page it opened, because those downloads can be unwanted programs.
I clicked a notification from watchvideo.net. What should I do?
If you only opened the page and closed it, nothing else is needed besides removing the permission from watchvideo.net. If the page asked for card details, a phone number or a password and you entered them, act on that: call the bank to block the card, or change the password from another device.
If it offered a download, delete the file unopened, or uninstall it from Installed apps if you ran it, then run a full scan. If you called a number shown on the page, follow the steps for callers in this guide. Finally, remove the permission so that no more messages arrive.
What is Watchvideo.net?
Watchvideo.net is a push-notification spam site, a kind of adware. It earns money by showing desktop notifications, and each view, click or redirect pays whoever runs it. It is not something people usually choose; it arrives through a free download, a fake button or a misleading prompt.
Watchvideo.net does not encrypt files or take control of Windows, but its ads are sold to anyone, including scam operators, so they can lead to fake virus warnings and unwanted downloads. The steps in this guide remove it from Windows and from each browser.
Why does watchvideo.net keep showing up?
There are two possible reasons. If it appears as desktop notifications, a browser on this PC was given permission to receive them from watchvideo.net, usually through a misleading prompt. That permission stays until you remove it in the browser's site settings.
If it appears as tabs or redirects, an ad on a site you visit is opening it, or an extension or program on the PC is. Test a private window: if watchvideo.net never appears there, an extension is the likely cause. The plan above covers each case.
Do I have to change settings in every browser?
Only in the browsers that allowed watchvideo.net, but checking all of them takes a minute and is worth it. We saw the notifications in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Chrome and Edge keep their notification lists under site settings, and Firefox under Privacy & Security > Permissions.
Remove watchvideo.net and any other unfamiliar site from each list, then turn off new notification requests if you do not need them. Remember that every browser profile has its own list, so a second profile can keep the messages coming after you clean the first.
Are the pop-ups I see really from Watchvideo.net?
Compare them with the details in the table above. Watchvideo.net produces desktop notifications, and the clearest sign of it is notifications from watchvideo.net. Other adware looks similar, so check the name of the sending site at the bottom of a notification, the address in the tab that opened, or the newest entries on the extensions page.
If those match, this guide fits. If you see a different name, the same kind of steps apply, but remove the item you actually find rather than guessing.
Can an adware pop-up infect my PC just by appearing?
No. A pop-up, a notification or a new tab is only a web page or a message. It cannot run programs on Windows by itself, provided the browser and Windows are up to date. Infection needs a step from you:
- running a downloaded file
- installing an extension
- giving a stranger remote access
That is why scam pages work so hard to make you click. Close such pages with the tab's X or by closing the browser, not with buttons inside the page, which may start a download.
Is it safe to click Block or Allow on a notification prompt?
Clicking Block is safe; it only tells the browser not to show notifications from that site. Clicking Allow is not dangerous to your files either, but it gives the site a channel to your desktop that spam sites abuse at once.
The prompt itself is part of the browser, so you can trust its buttons. What you cannot trust is the text on the page around it. If a page explains why you must click Allow, choose Block or close the tab.
I let a "support technician" from an ad connect to my PC. What should I do?
Act quickly but calmly. Disconnect the PC from the internet first, so the connection ends. Uninstall the remote access tool they asked you to install and check Installed apps for anything else added during the call.
Run a Microsoft Defender full scan and offline scan. From another device, change your e-mail and banking passwords and sign out of all sessions.
If you paid by card, bank transfer or gift card, contact your bank or the card issuer immediately, and report the scam to the police. Do not answer if they call back.
Will Fortect remove Watchvideo.net?
No program removes Watchvideo.net itself, because there is nothing on the PC to remove: the notifications come through a permission saved in the browser, and only the browser's settings take it away, as the steps above show.
What Fortect can do is check the rest of Windows. Its free scan looks for malware, unwanted programs and damaged system files, which is useful if you clicked the ads, downloaded something from the pages they opened, or are not sure what else changed on the PC.
If the scan finds nothing and the notifications stopped after you removed the permission, this problem is solved. Use Microsoft Defender as a second opinion whenever you have downloaded files from pages like these.
