Remove WeatherBug (Free Guide) - updated Jan 2021

removal by Jake Doevan - -   Also known as WeatherBug adware | Type: Adware

WeatherBug – a weather app with unwanted side effects

WeatherBug (can also be found as Weather Bug) is an ad-supported program that has been actively spread with the help of bundling. Of course, there are hundreds of people who have installed this application as a useful tool that can be used for receiving weather forecasts and similar information.

Nevertheless, you may discover that WeatherBug is typical adware capable of tracking your browsing activity and then displaying commercial advertisements that are usually selected according to it. Regardless of which version of the app you use (phone or desktop), your browsing routine might be interrupted with ads on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or another web browser.

Name WeatherBug
Type Adware
Distribution While users can install the app on official sources, it is also spread via software bundling
Issues The app is not malicious, although it can bring unwanted advertisements in various forms
Elimination Follow the step-by-step guide we provide at the bottom on this article
Optional steps You should clean your web browsers and scan your device with antimalware to ensure its integrity. If something malicious was found, employ ReimageIntego after virus elimination to fix potential damage caused to system files

As soon as WeatherBug is installed on the computer, it would change the settings of all the installed web browsers in the background. As a result, users might observe the following types of ads during their browsing sessions:

  • commercial pop-ups
  • in-text links
  • auto-play
  • banners
  • video ads, etc.

If you don't like to see commercial pop-up ads that show up in the form of browser ads, in-text links, banner ads, etc., you should avoid WeatherBug adware. Besides, it seems that this program can also cause redirects to its affiliate websites.

That's why these commercial pop-up notifications are displayed for. If you don't want to be rerouted to unknown, questionable, and even unsafe websites, you should avoid WeatherBug ads. In fact, you should remove programs that are causing such ads during your browsing sessions because this is the easiest way to protect yourself from unwanted content.

Beware that this program can be installed either manually or in a bundle with other programs. Also, there are lots of free applications that can be used for promoting it. If you want to avoid them, you need to know about several tips that will be revealed in the next paragraph of this post.

Finally, you should remove WeatherBug from your computer because it may cause lots of unwanted activities on it. Follow the detailed instructions below to successfully eliminate the program. For best results, also perform a full system scan with ReimageIntego.

PUPs are spread via software bundles – here's how to avoid them

As we have already mentioned, this program can be installed manually, but it can also be bundled with other programs. In most cases, the app is bundled with the following:

  • PDF creators
  • media players
  • video streaming software
  • system optimizers, etc.

They all are involved in such activity in exchange for money, so you should never hesitate and check each of them before their installation. If WeatherBugs has already infiltrated your computer, you should think about what freeware have you just installed on it.

If you are about to install such an application, make sure you select the Custom or Advanced installation option and then uncheck pre-checked check marks that are stating that you want to install browser add-ons, extensions, plugins, toolbars, and similar components on your computer.

If WeatherBug infiltrates the system, it starts running on every Windows startup and starts causing its ads, banners, and similar content. If you want to avoid such interrupting things, you need to use the guide below and remove this adware from your computer.

While this program has been spread with the uninstaller, we can't guarantee that it will help you eliminate all suspicious components. That's why we believe that you should opt for automatic removal of WeatherBug adware.

Remove WeatherBug from your device

WeatherBug virus is not a correct term to describe this program as, according to our research, it does not perform malicious tasks on the system. However, as it might be spread via a deceptive distribution technique known as bundling and introduce a variety of ads into users' browsing routine, it is considered to be an adware app.

If you want to stop advertisements, we recommend you remove WeatherBug from your device. If you have never uninstalled programs before, you can find detailed instructions on how to do that below. It is also advisable to clean web browser data and cookies to prevent further tracking activities.

After WeatherBug removal, you should also initiate a full system scan with powerful anti-malware, as there could be other PUPs or even malware running in the background without your knowledge.

You may remove virus damage with a help of ReimageIntego. SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner and Malwarebytes are recommended to detect potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.

After uninstalling this potentially unwanted program (PUP) and fixing each of your web browsers, we recommend you to scan your PC system with a reputable anti-spyware. This will help you to get rid of WeatherBug registry traces and will also identify related parasites or possible malware infections on your computer. For that you can use our top-rated malware remover: ReimageIntego, SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes.

Do not let government spy on you

The government has many issues in regards to tracking users' data and spying on citizens, so you should take this into consideration and learn more about shady information gathering practices. Avoid any unwanted government tracking or spying by going totally anonymous on the internet.

You can choose a different location when you go online and access any material you want without particular content restrictions. You can easily enjoy internet connection without any risks of being hacked by using Private Internet Access VPN.

Control the information that can be accessed by government any other unwanted party and surf online without being spied on. Even if you are not involved in illegal activities or trust your selection of services, platforms, be suspicious for your own security and take precautionary measures by using the VPN service.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer from data losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Ransomware can encrypt and hold files hostage, while unforeseen power cuts might cause a loss of important documents. If you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work. It is also equally important to update backups on a regular basis so that the newest information remains intact – you can set this process to be performed automatically.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware strikes out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the data restoration process.

WeatherBug is removed like any other program- by exiting the program first (if you have an older version, the new version can still be running and uninstalled) and then going to add/remove programs and clicking WeatherBug. Note that after you click the 2 uninstall screens there is an OPTIONAL survey- if you have a pop-up blocker or certain firewalls, it may prevent the survey from opening. But by the time you get to the survey the program is removed. Close add/remove program window and reopen and it will be gone- my team and I test it every single day on multiple machines- dial up, broadband, etc.

If you have questions, either click the HELP button on your WeatherBug, click SUPPORT at our homepage or email me at

I then clicked start and search and typed the word weatherbug and deleted them. Finally I went to start, Run, and typed msconfig and then I clicked start up and unchecked weatherbug and restarted my computer.

I have windows 8 and WeatherBug found a way in. This was the first time Ive seen it. That was 3 days ago. I couldnt figure out how to get rid of it until I came to this site and saw the comment by Ms.Gonzalez. I am a computer idiot and can barely use google, but I found PROGAMS, clicked it and all of my programs came up just as Ms.Gonzalez said. Scrolled down to WEATHERBUG, clicked it and at top it said click to uninstall. I did and a window popped up that said to wait for current program to finish for uninstall to be complete. Once you see that you got him. Dont wait for that to happen it already has…just close out of the pop up and close the programs window and behind it is a WeatherBug window waiting for you to click. It should already have uninstall “checked” so go to bottom and click NEXT. Screen will change and at bottom click FINISH. WEATHERBUG IS NOW SQUASHED!

I tried all the above, and I have a Mac. I followed the right click, and opened the contents….it showed 4 folders/icons inside. Using the back arrow to reveal only the main folder with contents inside, I sent it to the trash…and emptied the trash can immediately. The contents then showed no more folders, however the icon bug remained in my applications….I still couldnt trash that. I then restarted my computer, and the icon went the way of the wind :))

    What a royal pain….
