Kvag ransomware belongs to the notorious ransomware family STOP/Djvu. Crooks behind it already released over 150 variants of the virus, and the rate is not slowing down.
Initially, in some of the cases, the encrypted files could be restored with the help of a special tool - STOPDecryper. However, the last few variants are no longer decryptable at all, so the file decryption without paying the ransom to crooks is rarely possible. Nevertheless, we highly advise you check this guide for the full Kvag ransomware removal instructions.
Once you get rid of the infection by using anti-malware software (you might have to enter Safe Mode for that - check the step-by-step guide we provide in the above link), you can attempt using third-party recovery software - it might be possible to retrieve at least some of your files. Be aware that removing the malware is extremely important because all the recovered files would be appended with .kvag repeatedly. As of now, 49 AV engines detect the malware and should be able to eliminate it without any problems.
If nothing helps for you, you should make a copy of all the encrypted files and wait till security experts come up with a new decryption tool.
Recently in cybersecurity forums, researchers noted that people who get their files encrypted with offline keys have another option. The decryption is not working for all types of files, but data encoded with offline keys should get decrypted.
This option can work for .moka, .kvag, .gero, .hese, .meds, .peta and other more recent versions of DJVU, so you should at least give it a try.
