What Tongtonger.click is and how its ads reach you
Tongtonger.click is a web address used to push ads, not a program. Our 2025 report found it asking visitors to click Allow in the browser's notification prompt; in our 2026 test it passed us on to another address. Nothing is installed on the PC either way.

Our 2025 report says people arrive without choosing to: through an ad on a shady site, a hacked site or bundled software.

A fake check asks for Allow
The words around the prompt say you must click Allow to prove you are not a robot, to watch a video or to confirm your age. The small box with the Allow and Block buttons is the browser's own and asks one thing: may this site show notifications.

The browser remembers the answer
Chrome keeps the permission for that site address until you remove it (Chrome Help). Closing the tab does not take it back.

Ads arrive as notifications
The site's server sends messages through the browser's push service, and they appear in the corner of the screen at times that look random, even when no page from the site is open. Chrome and Edge keep running in the background by default, so this works after the last window is closed; Firefox shows them only while it is open (Mozilla Support).

We opened tongtonger.click the way a visitor does: a clean desktop Chromium browser in Lithuania, one visit. Then we sent one plain request, without a browser, to see where the address points.

- RedirectThe address answered with status 200 in the browser and, in the same visit, landed on http://click-v4.junclikrmedi.com/click with an identifier after it. The page had no title or visible text; our screenshot is blank.
- Second lookA plain request to the address answered with a 302 redirect to survey-smiles.com and set a cookie named sid that is valid until 2094. Different from the browser visit, so the destination is not fixed. We did not follow it.

We described a deceptive site that asks for notification permission and then sends ads, and gave the fix: take the permission back in the browser.

The current registration starts
The registry record for tongtonger.click shows the domain created on 29 July 2026, 14 months after our report. So the name was registered again or changed hands; the record does not say which. A permission allowed in 2025 is kept by the browser under the site address, not under the registration.

Our new check: a redirect, no prompt seen
The address passed our browser on to click-v4.junclikrmedi.com and a plain request on to survey-smiles.com. We saw no notification request on that visit. Notifications you still get under this name come from a permission allowed earlier.
The wording of the fake prompts
None of these lines is a real check. They are written to look like a CAPTCHA, an age gate or a download button, so that the click on Allow feels routine.

Notifications or redirects: which are you seeing?
Our 2025 report called adware the likely cause of redirects to this address; we found no evidence for that. Several causes look alike and have different fixes.

The notification permission itself installs nothing. These are the ways the ads that follow it can hurt you.

Fake updates, "codecs" and "cleaners" are how adware, browser hijackers and sometimes trojans get onto a PC.

Which browser shows the ads?
Step 1: Remove tongtonger.click from Chrome's notification list
Chrome keeps a list of every site you once allowed to send notifications, and
tongtonger.clickis on it. Pastechrome://settings/content/notificationsinto the address bar, find tongtonger.click under Allowed to send notifications, open the three-dot menu next to it and pick Remove.Then click Add next to Not allowed to send notifications and type tongtonger.click, so the site cannot ask a second time. Repeat it in every Chrome profile you use on Windows 11 or Windows 10, since each profile has its own list.

On an Android phone
Open Chrome, tap the three-dot menu > Settings > Site settings > Notifications. Under Allowed, tap each site you do not recognise and choose Reset permissions, or switch Notifications off for all sites. Then uninstall apps you do not remember installing from Settings > Apps.

Reset Chrome
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults and confirm with Reset settings. This resets the start page, search engine and pinned tabs and turns off extensions; bookmarks and saved passwords stay. To stop notifications after you close Chrome, also turn off Settings > System > Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

Open Settings and more (the three dots) > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Notifications. Remove

Reset Edge
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values and confirm with Reset. Extensions are turned off and the start page goes back to default; favourites, history and saved passwords stay. To stop notifications after you close Edge, turn off Settings > System and performance > Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed.

Remove add-ons you do not recognise

Clear cookies and site data
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data, tick both boxes and click Clear.
Refresh Firefox
Open the menu > Help > More troubleshooting information and click Refresh Firefox. Add-ons and custom settings are removed and the home page goes back to default; bookmarks, history and passwords stay.

Take back the notification permission
Safari 18 and later on macOS: open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications, select any site you do not recognise, such as
tongtonger.clickand set it to Deny, or click Remove. Untick Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications at the bottom so no site can ask again.Remove extensions you do not recognise
In Safari > Settings > Extensions, select anything you did not install yourself and click Uninstall.
Clear the site data
In Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, remove the site's data, or use History > Clear History > all history. To empty the cache as well, turn on Show features for web developers in Settings > Advanced and choose Develop > Empty Caches.
Check the Mac for apps from the ads
Ads also target Mac users with fake players and "cleaners". In Finder > Applications, move anything unknown to the Bin. In System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions, remove unknown items. Then use Go > Go to Folder to check
/Library/LaunchAgents,~/Library/LaunchAgents,/Library/LaunchDaemonsand/Library/Application Supportfor folders and files with the same unknown names, and empty the Bin.
Then, whichever browser you use
Step 2: Scan the PC if you downloaded anything from the ads
If you only saw the notifications and clicked nothing, you can stop before this step. If a notification led you to download or run something, delete that file, then scan Windows.
In Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, run a Full scan, then choose Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) and Scan now. The offline scan restarts the PC and takes about 15 minutes on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

If you clicked a download or the redirects keep coming
Browser steps are enough if you only saw notifications. If redirects or ads keep appearing, or you ran a file that an ad offered, do these three things as well.

Uninstall what you do not know
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11 (Apps & features in Windows 10), sort by install date and uninstall anything installed on the day you clicked (Uninstall a program or app in Windows On uGetFix).

Scan, then scan offline
Run a Microsoft Defender Full scan, then the Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), which finds trojans and backdoors that hide while Windows runs. On a Mac, check Applications and Login Items as shown in the Safari steps.

Reset the browser
Programs from bad links often change the start page, search engine or extensions. Use the reset step for your browser above.
If you typed a password, card number or other details on a page that opened from an ad, change that password now and call your bank about the card.
How to keep it from happening again
Do
- Turn off notification requests: in Chrome, Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications.
- Download programs only from their makers' sites or the Microsoft Store.
- When an installer offers Custom or Advanced setup, choose it and untick extra programs and pre-ticked offers.
- Keep Microsoft Defender SmartScreen on, or Chrome's Enhanced protection: both warn before known malicious pages and downloads.
Don't
- Click Allow on a page that says you must allow notifications to prove you are not a robot, to watch a video or to confirm your age.
- Run an
.exe,.msior script that a notification or ad says is an update, a codec or a "cleaner". - Install a player, extension or app that a page demands before it shows you anything.
Questions about Tongtonger.click
What is Tongtonger.click?
Tongtonger.click is a web address that exists to push ads at visitors. Our 2025 report found its pages asking for notification permission with fake robot checks, video players and age gates. In our October 2026 test the address instead passed the browser straight on to click-v4.junclikrmedi.com, so it also works as a redirect link in an ad chain.
It is not a program: nothing is installed when you open it. The registry record shows the domain created on 29 July 2026, later than our first report, so the name was registered again or changed hands. Notifications you still get under this name come from a permission allowed earlier.
Is Tongtonger.click a virus?
No, Tongtonger.click is not a virus: it is a website, and a website cannot install a program just because you opened it. The risk is what it sets up. If you clicked Allow, the browser keeps a notification permission and the site can send ads to your desktop.
Those ads can lead to fake virus alerts, prize pages and fake updates, and running a file from one of them is how real adware or malware arrives. Our one visit on 5 October 2026 saw a redirect and no prompt, which does not clear the site.
How do I stop Tongtonger.click notifications?
Take the permission back in your browser. In Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications, find tongtonger.click or any address you do not recognise under the allowed sites, and choose Block.
In Edge the list is under Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications. In Firefox, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Notifications > Settings, set the site to Block and save. In Safari on a Mac, open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications and set it to Deny.
Why do I see Tongtonger.click ads when I am not browsing?
The ads arrive as browser notifications, and notifications do not need the page to be open. When you click Allow, the browser stores the permission and the site's server can send messages through the browser's push service.
Chrome and Edge keep running in the background by default after you close the last window, so the ads can appear then. Firefox shows them only while it is open. The fix is to remove the permission, and in Chrome or Edge also to turn off background running after the browser is closed.
I clicked Allow on Tongtonger.click. What should I do now?
Remove the permission first, then check whether anything else happened. Block the site in the browser's notification list, then ask what you did after the click: if you only clicked Allow, nothing is installed and the browser steps are enough. If you ran a file, typed a password or gave card details, follow the section for that case:
- uninstall programs you do not know by install date
- run a Microsoft Defender full scan and an offline scan
- change the password you typed
- call your bank about a card
Can Tongtonger.click ads appear on my phone?
Yes, on an Android phone if Chrome was given the permission. Open Chrome, tap the three-dot menu > Settings > Site settings > Notifications, and under the allowed list tap any site you do not recognise, then choose to reset its permissions or turn notifications off for all sites.
Afterwards check Settings > Apps for anything you do not remember installing, because an ad that offers an app can lead to one. We did not test this address on a phone, so what it shows there is unknown.
Do I need antivirus software to remove Tongtonger.click?
No, not for the notifications. The permission is a browser setting and is removed in the browser, with no extra software. A scan is worth running if redirects continue, if your browser settings changed, or if you ran a file from an ad.
Windows 11 and 10 include Microsoft Defender, which can run a full scan and an offline scan, and the browser reset covers changed settings and unwanted extensions. We do not claim any product removes this address: there is nothing to remove from the PC.
How do I avoid sites like Tongtonger.click?
Never click Allow on a page that gives a reason other than wanting its notifications. A real CAPTCHA, age check or video player does not need the notification permission. You can also turn requests off: in Chrome, Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications.
Most such pages are reached through ads on streaming, torrent and download sites, so closing the tab is the safest answer. Download programs from their makers' sites, choose Custom setup in installers and untick extras, and keep Defender SmartScreen or Chrome's Enhanced protection on.
Will Fortect remove Tongtonger.click?
No program removes Tongtonger.click itself, because there is nothing on the PC to remove: the notifications come through a permission saved in the browser, and only the browser's settings take it away, as the steps above show.
