Highlightly Ads (virus) - Removal Guide
Highlightly ads Removal Guide
What is Highlightly Ads?
Highlightly is the program that offers false functionality with lots of pop-ups

Highlightly is a potentially unwanted program, which can easily get on your nerves. We say so because of a simple reason – as soon as it enters the computer, it hijacks each of its web browsers and then starts displaying continuous pop-up advertisements.
Please, beware that these ads are displayed not only for helping you to improve your browsing on the web and help you save some money. They are also used to make people visit specific websites and increase their sales and visibility on the net. If you want to avoid this marketing technique and suspicious websites that it may try to promote, you have to keep in mind that you have to stay away from such software.
| name | Highlightly |
|---|---|
| Type | Adware |
| Purpose | Redirect users to affiliated sites increasing their visibility, popularity, sales, etc. |
| Risks | Exposure to various untrustworthy sites may lead to privacy issues, financial losses, installation of more worthless or harmful software |
| Elimination | You can remove this PUP either manually or automatically. Instructions for both methods are displayed below |
| System health check | To undo any damage this or any other infection has caused to your device's system files or settings, consider using the time-tested FortectIntego repair tool |
As stated before, the article's culprit is developed to show misleading ads from its affiliated pages. It can do that not only by showing pop-up ads but also:
- banner ads,
- in-text links,
- pop-up notifications,
- other alerts that report about best prices, price comparisons, great deals, and similar attractive things.
Potentially unwanted programs can end up on your computer without your knowledge. They may infiltrate a device in a bundle with other programs. That's why you must be very focused on the programs' installation process when you are downloading them from the internet.
Typically, you should check what optional components are hiding inside and uncheck these pre-checked marks that agree to install 'additional downloads', 'free additions', and similar components. Otherwise, you may notice continuous notifications, commercial ads, and similar things that will try to interrupt your browsing.
If you have no idea where Highlightly came on your computer from, you should waste no time and remove it because it may start tracking your browsing on the web and collect various information. In most cases, such browser add-ons collect people's search terms, mostly visited websites, data that they enter when visiting each of them, etc.
No matter that such data is considered personally non-identifiable, you shouldn't reveal it to unknown third parties. If you want to remove Highlightly, you should download an antivirus tool such as Malwarebytes or SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner, or other reputable anti-spyware that will help you detect all suspicious programs and their files.
Such software is a must these days to prevent your devices from being infected. But you also need to take care of the virus damage caused by the PUP. Run a program that can find issues with corrupted files and system functions like FortectIntego, so the machine is properly recovered.
Stay away from shady online advertisements and p2p sites
No matter that Highlightly should never be called 'virus' beware that this program can show up on your computer out of nowhere. That's because it's distributed in a bundle with freeware and shareware. We have already explained how you can avoid its installation.
If you missed this checkmark that says 'I agree to install Highlightly on my computer', you could expect that it will occupy each of your browsers. In addition, you may notice continuous banner ads and pop-up notifications every time you enter a shopping site. It may sound harmless to you, but beware that this program may also be used to track your browsing activity, redirect to insecure sites, and initiate other insecure activities.
Clear the system fully to remove Highlightly virus
There are ways to get rid of this adware, so you should choose either to find it yourself (guides below if you decide that you need help) or by running a security tool developed to clear any possible intruders like that. If you choose the right tool, the whole process will take just a couple of minutes, and your device will be crispy clean, like new.
There's no shame in admitting to being tricked by adware creators as that's their craft. The important thing is to stay safe. Proper AV software makes sure that you don't visit high-risk sites and prevent malware from infecting your devices. It's a must these days.
