Mystartsearch virus Removal Guide
What is Mystartsearch virus?
MyStartSearch is a browser-hijacking program that inserts ads into your searches
MyStartSearch is an app that is not malicious in itself; its developers have been using really deceptive promotion techniques to attract web traffic and thus to generate revenue. As soon as this browser hijacker enters a computer, it tries to change the homepage and the default search engine into mystartsearch.com.
In addition, it may try to append the argument mystartsearch.com to various Windows shortcuts located on your desktop and your Windows Start Menu. Initially, MyStartSearch might seem a convenient homepage to use, since it features popular links to various websites and social networks.
Nevertheless, after using it for a while you may notice that it tries to direct your web traffic to unknown websites. For this reason, we would not advise you to have it running on your computer. On the contrary, we think that the best way for you to avoid any potential risk is to remove MyStartSearch with a trustworthy anti-malware like FortectIntego.
It typically affects the following browsers (although it is likely to be compatible with all Chromium-based browsers):
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- MS Edge
- Safari, etc.
If you still believe that it's a useful search page, you should know that its search bar employs a customized Google search engine, which means that every time you click on a sponsored link, both the search engine and the traffic-referring website receive revenue. Besides, many users claimed that they found the app on their systems without allowing it to do so:
Out of nowhere, my homepage was changed to mystartsearch.com. I have no clue where this came from, as I did not give permission for this!
There is no guarantee that in the future, you will not be redirected to some potentially harmful website, so we advise you to reduce the risk as soon as possible and rely on reputable search engines.
Always pick “Advanced” or “Custom” installation settings
Usually, users are redirected to mystartsearch.com because of various add-ons, toolbars, and plug-ins installed on their browsers. The said add-ons are usually installed when you download free software from the Internet, which comes in a package with other software you have not been informed about.
This is called bundling, and this how users usually download some software with browser hijackers or some other adware attached to them. Even very popular free software may be bundled with MyStartSearch browser hijacker, for example:
- Java
- Flash Player
- VLC.
This does not mean that developers of these programs are initially bundling browser hijackers with their software. This happens later and is done by third parties. Users usually download them when using download managers, download clients, and installers, which bundle these programs together.
When installing VPlay, you may also agree to change your homepage and default search engine to mystartsearch.com. However, even if you uninstall the app from your computer, you will have to restore your Internet browser settings manually because of Mystartsearch redirects.
In order for you to avoid installation of MyStartSearch hijacker, avoid various download managers, try downloading programs from the official sites only and be attentive during the installation process. For example, select custom or advanced installation options and deselect all of the variants that do not seem familiar to you.

How to prevent from getting browser hijacker
Stream videos without limitations, no matter where you are
There are multiple parties that could find out almost anything about you by checking your online activity. While this is highly unlikely, advertisers and tech companies are constantly tracking you online. The first step to privacy should be a secure browser that focuses on tracker reduction to a minimum.
Even if you employ a secure browser, you will not be able to access websites that are restricted due to local government laws or other reasons. In other words, you may not be able to stream Disney+ or US-based Netflix in some countries. To bypass these restrictions, you can employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN, which provides dedicated servers for torrenting and streaming, not slowing you down in the process.
Data backups are important – recover your lost files
Ransomware is one of the biggest threats to personal data. Once it is executed on a machine, it launches a sophisticated encryption algorithm that locks all your files, although it does not destroy them. The most common misconception is that anti-malware software can return files to their previous states. This is not true, however, and data remains locked after the malicious payload is deleted.
While regular data backups are the only secure method to recover your files after a ransomware attack, tools such as Data Recovery Pro can also be effective and restore at least some of your lost data.
