I downloaded skype and it glitched my computer out, the screen was flashing and my computer restarted. The glitch only stopped when i exited out skype. I uninstalled the app but i am now worried that i could have a virus. Should i be worried? i have alot of important things on my computer than i can not lose. Thanks!

Unfortunately, we cannot confirm whether your computer was infected with malware, as it depends on various factors, such as whether you downloaded Skye from the official Microsoft website. If you did, you should not be worrying about anything - the symptoms you experienced might be caused by various other factors, such as software conflict.
Nevertheless, if you obtained the installer for somewhere else but Microsoft's site, it could be malware. Therefore, you should immediately scan your machine with anti-virus software to make sure it is not a Trojan or other malicious software.
As for important documents on your computer, please make sure you backup them via Cloud (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.) regularly, as such infections like ransomware might result in permanent data loss.
