ClipConverter.cc: is it safe? Ads, notifications and how to remove them

On our one visit on 6 October 2026 the site was quiet:

• no notification request
• no pop-up
• no redirect away from its own pages

That makes the page itself low risk, but it does not clear the site. It is paid for by advertising, its privacy policy names the Monetag ad network, which sells pop-under and push-notification ads, and it uses your IP address to choose regional ads, so another visitor may see more.

We also did not convert a video, so we have not checked what the download link serves. Use it in a browser profile where notifications are blocked, ignore everything except the link for your own file, and never run an .exe or .msi that arrives instead of a video.

No, ClipConverter.cc is a website and it installs nothing by itself. The reports that call it a virus usually come from three things:

• a notification permission someone allowed on the site
• ads that opened scam or fake update pages
• files downloaded from those ads

A notification permission is not a virus, but it keeps delivering ads until you remove it in the browser settings.

If you ran a program that came from an ad, uninstall whatever was installed that day and run a Microsoft Defender full scan followed by the offline scan. If you only saw notifications, the browser steps above are all you need.

Remove the site from the list of sites allowed to send notifications. In Chrome open chrome://settings/content/notifications, in Edge edge://settings/content/notifications, and in Firefox Settings > Permissions and data > Notifications. Then remove clipconverter.cc, www.clipconverter.cc and any address you do not recognise, and block it so it cannot ask again.

Do this in every browser and profile you use, because each keeps its own list. The notifications stop at once and nothing has to be uninstalled. If they keep coming from changing addresses, check the browser's extensions and the site list again.

No, they are different addresses and nothing we read ties them together. On 6 October 2026 clipconverter.cx, registered in February 2020, redirected through app.clipconverter.cx and clipconverter.io to a page titled "[New] ClipConverter - Youtube to Mp4 & Mp3 converter".

ClipConverter.cc, registered in March 2010, is run by Lunaweb GmbH of Grünwald, Germany, according to its own terms. We did not establish who runs the .cx and .io addresses. Treat each as a separate site:

• look at what it asks of you
• never allow notifications
• install nothing it offers

The site's terms and privacy policy name Lunaweb GmbH, Nördliche Münchner Straße 47, 82031 Grünwald, Germany, as the operator and data controller.

The domain itself was registered on 20 March 2010 through the registrar OVH and is paid up until 20 March 2027, according to the registry's RDAP record, and the privacy policy says the site is hosted by OVH.

The page also loads an analytics script from a domain named after the operator. The registry does not publish the owner's details, so the operator's name rests on the site's own statements, which we could not check independently.

Visiting the site is legal, but what you convert decides whether you break any rules. Its terms allow recording for personal use only and say that making content public or using it commercially needs the rights holder's agreement. The about page says a filter blocks copyrighted material such as music videos, and that the filter sometimes misses.

Most videos are copyrighted by the people who made them, and platforms generally allow saving only through their own buttons. Converting your own uploads, Creative Commons videos or public-domain material is normally fine. Local law differs, and the terms put the responsibility on you.

The home page still names YouTube among its supported services, but the site's own add-on page says it is no longer possible to access YouTube through ClipConverter and presents a browser add-on as the workaround. We did not test a YouTube download, so we cannot say whether either route works today.

YouTube restricts downloads in its terms, and many converters have dropped it or fail with errors; the site's FAQ lists "Unable to get video infos from YouTube" as a common one. For YouTube, the safe routes are offline viewing with YouTube Premium or your own uploads from YouTube Studio.

We would not install it just to convert a video. The site offers add-ons for Chrome, Firefox and Safari that put a button on YouTube pages, and it says they contain no adware, spyware, toolbars or search providers. We did not test them, so that is the site's claim, not our finding.

Any extension can read the pages you open, which is a real privacy cost for a task you may do once. If you do install one, take it only from the browser's own store, check the permissions it asks for, and remove it when you no longer need it.

The safest way is the platform's own feature, because it involves no third-party site, ads or files from unknown servers. YouTube offers offline viewing with Premium, TikTok shows a save option on videos whose authors allow it, and Instagram, Facebook and X let you save posts inside the app.

For your own uploads use the platform's studio or download-your-data tools. If you use an online converter, block notifications for it, click only the link it creates for your file, and check that what you get is an audio or video file. Any .exe, .msi or .zip means you clicked an ad.

No program removes ClipConverter.cc itself, because there is nothing on the PC to remove: the notifications come through a permission saved in the browser, and only the browser's settings take it away, as the steps above show.
