removal by Jake Doevan - - | Type: Browser hijacker

If Houmpage.com virus affects a computer, it makes this URL appear in all main Internet browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Other browsers can be affected, too; for this reason, it is also known as Houmpage.com browser hijacker. If this site appears in your browser although you did not touch your browser’s settings, be aware that it is not a good sign and your computer security level is not at its peak point. Read below to find relevant information about the functionality of this browser hijacker, its distribution techniques and also removal guidelines.

When did Houmpage.com hijack your computer and what can you do to protect your computer from similar situations in the future?

Indeed, people are aware of the fact that free software can contain some ‘optional downloads.’ Moreover, most of them even know the fact that additional browser add-ons, toolbars, plug-ins, and extensions are set by default, and unless they are unmarked, they end up in the system and start executing the tasks that they are set to. Houmpage.com search engine is one of those additional components that may be disguised under quick/express/basic installation option. Thus, it’s not enough to know that software packages do exist.

Questions about Houmpage.com virus

To prevent Houmpage.com hijack, infiltration of adware programs, and other software that is not desired, it’s a MUST to take precautionary measures. At the best, you should avoid installing free programs or, at least, avoid unknown/suspicious-looking download sources. This way, the percentage of downloading a freeware with a bundle decreases a little bit. Besides, the risk of installing Houmpage.com virus and other unwanted programs decreases if you install free programs properly. Always choose ‘Advanced’ or ‘Custom’ installation mode and check every check box. This way, all additional components should be disclosed to you, and you should get the chance to opt out of them all. In case Houmpage.com malware has already landed on your web browser, we would recommend scanning the entire system with Reimage or another anti-malware.

Houmpage.com virus

How does this browser hijacker function and what is the aim of it?

Houmpage.com is a browser hijacker that is closely related to various third parties. In fact, this search engine serves as a marketing tool that helps to increase the rank for quite unpopular third party web pages. To do that, this search drops an extension on each web browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox), and sets Houmpage.com as a default start page, search provider, and a new tab window. Consequently, it gets the chance to display sponsored links and advertisements within search results, what increases the chance that the PC user will visit the website of the affiliate parties. Unfortunately, but Houmpage.com redirects can also lead you to unsafe web pages, so keeping such a possibility in mind you should not fall for clicking on any of the links that this search provides.

Another noteworthy fact is related to cookies (small files used to track and store information). Houmpage.com redirect virus uses cookies as well. In other words, when you use this search engine, consciously or unconsciously you agree that third parties register your search terms, pages that you visit, data that you type while visiting certain pages (including social networks), IP address, PC’s location, email address, and so on. Even though such information is not personal, it may be used for misleading pop-ups or even email spamming. Besides, Houmpage.com removal will certainly improve your web browser’s performance. So, do not wait any longer. Go to the next page, find removal instructions there, and remove Houmpage.com virus right away!
