Every Anti-Spyware you have listed their has a new version out making the test very inaccurate. (Even Spybot if you include their beta)
I would love to see a new test. |

Hi btman. Welcome to the 2-Spyware.com forums!
I'm aware of this issue. We will be conducting new tests very soon. The first stage of our tests should start next week. Tests should be completed this month or in the beginnng of June.
I'm sorry for inconvenience. |

Thats great news to hear! I'm just wondering if you can give me any assurance that these tests will be un-biased and the testing procedure will be appropriate as I'm quite sure there is not a legit anti-spyware test to this date and many others agree with me. |

Hi btman
I can assure you that our tests will be unbiased. Testing procedure will be similar to the old one, but also noticeably improved.
Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that tests will provide absolutely correct results. The reason is quite simple. We cannot test anti-spyware programs in just any possible situations. Conditions depend on operating system settings, installed software, user Internet surfing habits, contacts, etc. If "Program A" shows best results in one of the tests, it might show mediocre results in another possible situation. For instance, the most effective spyware remover might miss a simple parasite, while very basic one finds it, but misses difficult malware. If you're infected with that simple parasite only, you will find a basic program more effective that a powerful one. And this will be true, but only for your setup, for your personal case.
That's why it's impossible to say for sure, which program is the best one. But we can say which of them are the most effective in removal of the most typical, widely spread threats. That's how we run the tests. |

So are you going to test Lavasoft Ad-Aware? And Windows Defender? And also could you put it in a better format... That one looks similar to TopTenReviews which is obviously not an accurate site... Maybe something like @ www.AV-Comparatives.org AV Comparisons. |

Hi btman
Both Ad-Aware and Windows Defender will be tested.
We will think about putting the new comparison in a better format. Thank you for this suggestion! |

One major thing I notice from your test and well... Av-Comparatives is it doesn't seem you test the actual detection rates of the software? You talk removal rates, scan depth, detection techniques, removal rate... But there's no spot for like Trojans detected or missed... Or anything like that... It seems the test is mainly for features.
In the next test will you have numerous pieces of malware and record whats detected/missed? Because thats what I mainly look for when downloading Anti-Spywares (It's the reason I'd download AVG Anti-Spyware over Ad-Aware on a heavily infected computer... Under ANY condition) Because I'm pretty sure SpyHunter would fall down on the list... I haven't heard any buzz of the program... ever. So I'm not quite sure why it got such a praise on this test.
From Spyware Warrios Rogue Anti-Spyware List...
| Quote: |
| While there are still unresolved allegations that SpyHunter transmits the Windows Product ID from users' PCs (1), we can no longer classify this application as "rogue/suspect." Nonetheless, SpyHunter -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended because of its mediocre performance as an anti-spyware scanner. Testing indicates that it does not recognize some well-known spyware installations and has difficulty removing critical spyware/adware files even from those it does recognize (1). Given the many excellent competing anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free), users would do better looking elsewhere for trustworthy anti-spyware protection. |
And from the users I've talked to... It seems MANY have had bad times and even Hell with SpyHunters detection and removal of malware.
One of them is right here:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=163902&highlight=SpyHunter
Where someone turned on SpywareBlaster and that generated 55 FP with SpyHunter.
And then on the SpyHunter link for version 2.9 it says....
"Database of 500 spyware and adware threats"
Thats... VERY low.....
And also... An online review by Adware Report stated "We recommend that you avoid this product at all costs. It failed to remove any spyware in our tests and the scan results were filled with false positives, a probable marketing ploy designed to separate fools and their money."
And Wikipedia says it lacks a quarantine function...
Oh and also will Trend Micro Anti-Spyware be tested? |

Hi btman
First of all, I need to say that you missed our entire test. If you scroll down this page, you will find LOTS of information on our tests. This includes parasite detection and removal rates, etc. There is also a list of malware we used in our tests. Furthermore, there are spots for like "Trojans detected or missed.." Just take a closer look and don't hesitate to scroll the page down. It's really long .

We have them already and we will have them in next tests too.
As for SpyHunter, I don't like this program. And I never use it. However, I'm not the only one in charge here. Our marketing team has different opinion and I can do nothing about it . |

Hi btman
Yes, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware will be tested.
Please don't post the links here. Inexperienced users might follow them and infect their systems. But you can PM these links to me. We will need lots of malware links . |

It's the beginning of June... I'm not in a hurry for the tests to come out... As more malware samples is always a better test assuming none are FP's.... But... Alot of new versions came out... A-Squared V3... AVG 7.5.1.36... Spyware Terminator 1.9.2... Spyware Doctor 5.0.1.200... Ad-Aware 2007.. |
