Hello. Welcome to 2-Spyware.com forums!

To remove the ioctrl.dll file please do the following:

1. Launch Internet Explorer.
* Within it click on the Tools menu and then select the Manage Add-ons entry.
* This should open the add-on manager. Find the HomePageBHO add-on, select it with your mouse or keyboard and then check the Disable option located below. Press OK. This should disable the SpyAxe-related malicious add-on.

2. Now locate the ioctrl.dll file (it should be in your default system directory) and delete it.

I am having the same problem, but when I went into add in manager I did not have the HomePage-BHO add in. Is there something else that needs to be disabled. I am running windows xp and version 6.0 sp2 for Internet explorer.

Thanks,

Did you try to delete it in Safe Mode?

I managed to delete it. I had already done the Tools route. What I had to do was unplug the internet connection and shut down. then i was able to finish cleaning. This did not work with a restart, it had to be a total shutdown.

Thanks for the replies.

I am having the same trouble. It says Access denied when I try to delete the ioctrl.dll in safe mode or normal. And when I tried to unregistered as explained in the removal process I got ---ioctrl.dll was loaded, but the DllUnregister Server entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered. I dont know how to get rid of this bugger.

To get rid of the SpyAxe blinking icon please follow these steps:

1. Download the smitRem tool.
2. Unpack its files.
3. Reboot your system into Safe Mode.
4. Run the smitRem tool (the RunThis.bat file). This should delete the ioctrl.dll, which is responsible for displaying that blinking icons.

Now you have to find and delete the svchosts.dll file. It should be in your system directory (C:\Windows\System, C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Winnt\System32).
