Post subject: Unable to access Gmail and constantly being redirected |
|

I was infected with Windows Protection Suite (badware) recently, but I removed it. However, it may have left some aftereffects (or it could be a new virus) because I get redirected sometimes when I click a google link and I can't access my gmail. Every time I click the gmail button, it says connection failed. I also have a hard time browsing in general, with the computer slowing down occasionally, especially when I try to visit google.
Help would be appreciated, and thank. But please keep things as simple as possible, because I'm not a computer expert by any means. |

Hello and welcome to the 2-spyware.com
Likely, it's a Google redirect virus or a Trojan. First of all, use the fillowing tools:
1. ComboFix
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Note: rename ComboFix.exe to Combo-Fix.exe before running it. Then just follow the prompts.
2. CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com
Also make sure your Windows HOSTS file is not effected.
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open hosts file with Notepad and make sure there are only one line. Usually this one:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Good luck! |

For the first link, I don't understand Spanish. =[
And I don't understand most of your post either. Can you please put them in simpler words? |

Sorry, ignore my last post.
I used Combo-Fix, and I think the redirection problem is gone; however, I still can't access my gmail and search functions are still slow.
How can I fix that? |

What browser do you use? Try to use another browser and see if the problem persists. |

I tried both Firefox and Explorer.
Is this likely a Trojan or the effects of the previous virus? |

You have to make sure that Windows Hosts file is not effected. Also check DNS settings and browser settings (LAN settings). |
