Hi, we are having a problem with our laptop running very slow. We also get a pop-up that says security breach by the blackworm virus we recommend you download one of our softwraes to prevent further malware infefctions. I have run spyware doctor etc but this has not fixed the problem. Below is our hijack log.

Please download VirtumundoBeGone.exe from: http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools...BeGone.exe
1. Save it to your Desktop.
2. Locate and double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe to run it.
3. Follow the instructions.
4. When the tool has finished running, exit and post the log that is produced back here in this thread with your next reply.
5. Reboot your PC and post a fresh HJT log AND a description of how your PC is running.

When the tool finds Virtumundo, it will do the following:
Version 1.1
Create a Date/Time Stamped log file (VBG.TXT) on the All Users profile's Desktop.
Kill Internet Explorer and Explorer processes.
Rename the infected files with a .Vir extension (this is disable them from being run)
Remove the Browser Helper Object registry key (which is the 02 HijackThis log entry referenced above)
Adds a registry value to block file from running in Internet Explorer again.
Remove the Winlogon Notify registry key (which is the 020 HijackThis log entry referenced above)
Automatically restart the computer (via STOP error)
***Important***
Note: This is a BLUE SCREEN "Fatal Error" Message. It is normal and expected. The tool ends an important Windows Process that was protecting the file and NT Security STOPS the system as soon as it detects this is happening.

A VirusScan will now be able to remove the files normally.

Run an update of your antivirus application and run a full system scan to remove any left over files. Then post a fresh hjt log & the report from this tool.

It is a bit hard to judge computer as I have brought it home from work and is not mine. It seems to be going ok for now

Download KILLBOX, extract it to your desktop.

Open killbox.exe.

First

Click on Tools>Delete Temp Files

A box will open with a list of all user profiles.

Check the following boxes at a minimum for each profile by clicking on the drop down and checking the boxes that are enabled. Some will not apply and those boxes will not be available to check. Make sure you do this for all the profiles listed.

Temporary Internet Files
Temp Files
XP Prefetch

If you want to clean your cookies, history, and list of recent files run you may check those boxes as well.

Then,

Check on the Button titled "Delete Selected Temp Files"

Exit by clicking the Button titled "Exit(Save Settings)"

Once back into the main killbox program.

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

Highlight the entry in the quote box below and then Copy it.

Hi, thank you for your help so far. When I try and delete the file you quoted I get the below meesage:

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!

It then doesn't let killbox reboot the computer. I have tried running in safe mode as well but I get the same problem.

Maybe there is a process I need to end before I can get this to work?

Sorry if I did not make it sound clear in the previous post but bascically it is not letting me delete the geeby file in killbox or manually in explorer when I go to the system32 geeby file.

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from here: http://www.sysinternals.com/files/procexpnt.zip

Then reboot into safe mode.
The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of geeby.dll and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the geeby.dll under winlogon click OK.

Also look for any .ini or bak files or other dll's with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well. It would look like this "ybeeg.dll".

Record the name of any of these files found so you can remove them in the steps below.

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of geeby.dll then click the kill button.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

Now click fix checked and close HijackThis.

Now run killbox and paste The line below into the box, select delete on reboot then press the red X button, say yes to the prompt. Then repeat by typing in the full name of of any of the reverse named .bak or .ini or other files that you discovered in step 1. With each file you enter say yes to the prompt and no to reboot now until you have entered the last file, then say yes to reboot now.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeby.dll

After your computer has rebooted please run Hijackthis again and post a new HijackThis log.

It would be much easier to delete the geeby.dll file with the help of the VundoFix tool. Please follow these steps:

1. Download a variant of the VundoFix tool. Then double-click on the downloaded file. This will unpack VundoFix files.

2. Now reboot your system into Safe Mode. This step is very important!

3. Once in Safe Mode, open the VundoFix folder and execute the KillVundo.bat file.
* You will be presented with a warning. At this point press enter.
* Then you will be asked to type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff.
At this point type in this:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeby.dll. Press enter, then the F6 key.
* Now you should be asked to type in the second path as instructed by the forum staff.
At this point type in this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ybeeg*.*. Press enter, then the F6 key. Press enter one more time. Now the fix should run.

4. Then VundoFix should launch the HijackThis program. If it does not open automatically, please run it manually. Use HijackThis to fix the following entries:
O2 - BHO: WTLHelper Object - {6D33B121-5C4C-4450-9D1F-7B67085CC199} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeby.dll

6. After you get done, restart your computer, run another HijackThis scan and post a fresh log here.

I just got home and ran the one from GTO and I did notr pick up the files so it appears to you fantastic help again that I have managed to delete this. Congratulations! Your log looks clean to me .

As for the fixes, they are practically one and the same. The only difference is in the tools used. So, running my fix after one from 1972vet will not remove malicious files, since they were already deleted, and vice versa .
