Hi
Great site you have here. One of my computer's at home seems to have been hijacked (i think). It runs on a LAN and when I try to enable the connection it gets hung up on "Acquiring Network Address". When I try to repair the connection it will not allow Windows to renew the IP address. The computer runs Norton 2005 and I have recently installed Microsoft Antispyware Beta but neither have found anything that is causing this. have two other computers in the house on the same connection and both work fine. Switched out the cable on the "bad" machine and it is not a cable issue. I have talked to an "IT guy" (I am not one obviously) and he suggested that it must be spyware preventing the connection but didn't really know how to fix (I didn't say he was a GOOD IT Guy). Please help...

Hi, Jaq27. Welcome to 2-Spyware.com forums.

I don't think that your problem is caused by spyware parasites. It sounds like your network adapter hungs the entire PC due to some driver errors or hardware incompatibility. Which network card do you have?

Nevertheless, you should run HijackThis and post a fresh log. There is a possiblity, but not the biggest one, that viruses together with spyware pests prevent the connection. Read HijackThis tutorial to learn how to obtain the program and perform a scan.

Hi, Jaq27. I am sorry it took me so long to post a reply - today was a very busy day for me . Thank you for your patience!

Your HijackThis log seems to be clean. It should be a network card itself or its settings that prevent the connection. Please check your Internet adapter settings. They should be in Start > Settings > Network Connection > Local Area Connection, then General Tab and Properties. How does your computer obtain an IP address? Is it configured to use DHCP to obtan an address automatically or you have set a particular address yourself. If it is the latter case, you should check that an IP address is unique for your home network.

Thanks for looking at the log. I replaced the card in the machine and it still will not work. Took it to work today and it worked fine. Switched the cable to another computer and it worked fine as well. Very strange. It obtains the IP address automatically but it can't/won't. Any other ideas would be apreciated.
