Remove Windows Antivirus 2008 - Download SuperAntiSpyware free edition. Install it on the infected computer. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode (press F8) before you see the Windows icon. Choose Safe Mode. Run a full system scan. Remove all threats. Reboot.

This corrupted my registry. After removal and cleaning, Genuine Advantage recognized that my OS was activated, but did not see it as being valid anymore. Had to contact Windows. Resulted in a repair and re-installation of Windows. That did the trick.
