Hello, my computer has been infected with ransomware that displays red window and says “oops, your files have been encrypted!” There is a countdown clock that says i must “submit” payment via Bitcoin. I remember viruses that used to ask for Ukash card codes. I removed that one easily – but why is this new virus asking me for Bitcoins?
Can this be a version of Ukash virus?

The ransomware you described is likely to be WannaCry ransomware, which is also known as Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 virus. The ransomware has been widely distributed during the cyber attack that was launched on 12 May 2017. This virus can be called a modern version of Ukash ransomware because the majority of ransomware viruses nowadays ask to pay the ransom via Bitcoin, and not via pre-paid cards such as Ukash. Sadly, WannaCry ransomware, unlike the majority of Ukash viruses, encrypts files, which means that there is no way to recover them unless you have a backup. You might start thinking about the option to pay the ransom, but we warn you not to do so. There is no guarantee that files will be repaired. In many cases of ransomware attack, victims never received the decryption software after paying the ransom.
The ransomware is asking you Bitcoins because it is a modern way to anonymously transfer payments.
