Can you give me more information on vGhostCtrl? My daughter had some unexplained ghostly images on her phone and I was wondering if there is malware that can manipulate existing photos on a phone and resave them with such images.

It is highly unlikely that vGhostCtrl malware would alter images on your daughter's phone. If anything, it is specifically developed to remain hidden on the device - open a backdoor to allow threat actors to steal personal files and spy on users in various ways, including recording of phone calls.
