What is Blekko?

Blekko is a web search engine, which claims that it is capable of providing the best search results for its users. Please, do NOT think that they are better than those that are offered by Google Search, Bing, Yahoo and other well known search sites. In reality, there is no guarantee that they won’t be filled with suspicious links that may lead you to suspicious, questionable and even dangerous websites. After clicking them, you may be tricked into downloading other suspicious programs to your computer, so you should never visit them. Besides, this site, which was launched to the public on November 1, 2010, may cause slow downs and annoying pop-up ads on each of your web browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.). If you have just discovered Blekko virus on each of these browsers, it means that you have downloaded a program, which was involved to the distribution of this search site. That’s not a new thing. This distribution method is called bundling and the only way to avoid it is to start monitoring installation of the freeware. Last, but definitely not the least, issue that can be initiated by this search engine is tracking of people’s browsing habits. In most of the cases, it is interested in people’s search terms, mostly visited websites, data that they enter when visiting them, etc. No matter that such information is called ‘personally non-identifiable’ web don’t recommend sharing it with unknown parties. That’s why we highly recommend you to avoid this search engine and continue using Google, Yahoo or Bing. In order to protect yourself from this and other browser hijackers that may try to redirect your browser to unknown websites, you should start monitoring installation of the freeware. PDF creators, video streaming software and similar programs that have been involved to Blekko distribution. Stream videos without limitations, no matter where you are

There are multiple parties that could find out almost anything about you by checking your online activity. While this is highly unlikely, advertisers and tech companies are constantly tracking you online. The first step to privacy should be a secure browser that focuses on tracker reduction to a minimum.

Even if you employ a secure browser, you will not be able to access websites that are restricted due to local government laws or other reasons. In other words, you may not be able to stream Disney+ or US-based Netflix in some countries. To bypass these restrictions, you can employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN, which provides dedicated servers for torrenting and streaming, not slowing you down in the process.

Data backups are important – recover your lost files

Ransomware is one of the biggest threats to personal data. Once it is executed on a machine, it launches a sophisticated encryption algorithm that locks all your files, although it does not destroy them. The most common misconception is that anti-malware software can return files to their previous states. This is not true, however, and data remains locked after the malicious payload is deleted.

While regular data backups are the only secure method to recover your files after a ransomware attack, tools such as Data Recovery Pro can also be effective and restore at least some of your lost data.

Most likely youve downloaded a program from Cnet and (unasked) got Blekko with it. How to get rid of it?

    Step 1
go to your program list and remove Blekko and at the same time remove the program youve downloaded from Cnet at the time, just to be on the safe side.

Run CCleaner to remove any traces left behind

Go to your browser and set it to your preferred search engine.
Then check ALL your browser settings. I mean ALL.
Wherever you see Blekko remove it, could be 3 or 4 settings.
If its still there then youve missed a setting somewhere.
    Check again.

    Step 4
AVOID Cnet and Blekko LIKE THE PLAGUE
and put them on your blacklist.

I positively hate it when people are installing all kinds of unasked garbage on my computer. Ive wasted an hour to figure it all out and to get rid of it.
An hour I could have spent more productively.
    $%*&*$@ Cnet and Blekko.
