What Silenthill24.biz is and how you end up on it
Silenthill24.biz is a web address, not a program. Our 2022 report described it as one of the many push-notification scam sites: its pages push the visitor to click Allow in the browser's notification prompt. Opening the address installs nothing; what stays behind is a permission, and it stays until you take it back.

You land on the address by accident
Our 2022 report says the redirect usually happens after a visit to risky sites, such as ones that offer pirated software or free streaming of copyrighted material, or after an ad or link on a page that was already compromised. We did not test how visitors arrive.

A page gives a false reason to click Allow
The pictures in our 2022 report show two of them: a download page that says "Click Allow to start downloading" and a plain page with a cartoon robot that says to press Allow to verify you are not a robot. Neither needs a notification permission; both are bait for it.

One click on Allow is remembered
If you click Allow, the browser keeps that permission for the site address until you remove it (Chrome Help). Closing the tab does not take it back, and the page does not have to be open for the permission to work.

Ads then arrive as notifications
The site's server sends messages through the browser's push service (MDN: Push API), and they show in the corner of the screen at random times, whichever site you are on. Chrome and Edge keep running in the background by default, so this works after the last window is closed; Firefox shows them only while it is open (Mozilla Support).

The download-bait page
The first picture in our 2022 report shows a page titled Download with the line "Click \"Allow\" to start downloading", a logo in the style of a torrent client and a green ALLOW button. The logo does not mean that company is involved; the page only borrows a familiar look to make the prompt seem part of a download.

The "not a robot" page
The second picture shows a plain white page where a cartoon man says "Press Allow to verify, that you are not robot" next to a cartoon robot. Robot checks are a real routine on legitimate sites, which is why the trick works; a real check never needs notification permission.

Notifications, pop-ups or redirects: which are you seeing?
Our 2022 report said that an increased number of ads and phishing pages online can point to adware. That can be so, but it is the less usual cause; most people who see these ads only clicked Allow once. The causes look alike and have different fixes.

Step 1: Remove silenthill24.biz from Chrome's notification list

Reset Chrome
Go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults > Reset settings. The start page and search engine return to default and extensions are switched off; bookmarks and passwords stay. To stop alerts after Chrome is closed, also turn off Settings > System > Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

Reset Edge
Go to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values > Reset. Extensions are switched off and the start page returns to default; favourites, history and passwords stay. To stop alerts after Edge is closed, turn off Settings > System and performance > Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed.

Clear cookies and site data
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data, tick both boxes and press Clear.
Refresh Firefox
Open the menu > Help > More troubleshooting information > Refresh Firefox. Add-ons and custom settings go; bookmarks, history and passwords stay.

Take back the notification permission
In Safari 18 or later on macOS open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications, select
silenthill24.bizor any site you do not know, and choose Deny or Remove. Untick Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications so no site can ask again.Remove extensions you do not recognise

Clear the site data
Open Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data and remove the site, or use History > Clear History > all history.
Check the Mac for apps from the ads
Pages like this push fake players and "cleaners" to Mac users. In Finder > Applications move unknown apps to the Bin, and remove unknown entries in System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions. Then use Go > Go to Folder to look in
/Library/LaunchAgents,~/Library/LaunchAgents,/Library/LaunchDaemonsand/Library/Application Supportfor items with the same names, and empty the Bin.
Then, whichever browser you use
Step 2: Scan the PC if you downloaded anything from the ads
If you only saw the notifications and clicked nothing, you can stop before this step. If a notification led you to download or run something, delete that file, then scan Windows.
In Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, run a Full scan, then choose Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) and Scan now. The offline scan restarts the PC and takes about 15 minutes on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Clicked a link in a notification, or still seeing ads?
Blocking the site stops the notifications. These checks are for the other case: you opened a file the ads offered, or pop-ups and redirects carry on after the permission is gone.

Look for programs you did not choose
Windows 11: Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Windows 10: Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Sort by install date and remove anything that arrived on the day you clicked (Uninstall a program or app in Windows On uGetFix).

First a Full scan, then the Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), which restarts the PC and checks before Windows loads (Microsoft Learn). On a Mac, check Applications and Login Items as in the Safari steps.

Entered a password, card number or phone number on a page an ad opened? Change that password now, and tell your bank about the card.
How to stay out of notification traps
Do
- Close a page that asks you to click Allow before you have seen any content.
- Turn the prompts off for good: Chrome Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications.
- Get programs from the maker's own site or the Microsoft Store, and pick Custom setup so bundled extras can be unticked.
- Keep Microsoft Defender SmartScreen or Chrome's Enhanced protection switched on.
- Keep a recent backup of your files, so a bad install is never a disaster.
Don't
- Click Allow unless you asked for that site's notifications.
- Visit sites that hand out pirated software or free copies of films and series; our 2022 report names them as the usual starting point.
- Open anything an ad or notification describes as an update, player or cleaner.

Silenthill24.biz is a web address that our 2022 report described as a push-notification scam site. The pictures in that report show a page that says "Click Allow to start downloading" and another that says to press Allow to prove you are not a robot. Both are bait for the browser's notification permission.
It is not a program: nothing is installed when you open it. When we visited on 6 October 2026 it showed a blank page, and the registry record shows the domain created on 1 June 2026, so it was registered again or changed hands. One visit does not clear the name.
Is Silenthill24.biz a virus?
No, Silenthill24.biz is not a virus: it is a website, and a website cannot install a program just because you opened it. The risk is what the page asks you to do.
It wants a click on Allow, which gives the site permission to send notifications, and the ads that follow can carry misleading links to fake downloads, scams and paid services you do not need.
Running a file such a page offers is how real malware arrives. Our one visit on 6 October 2026 saw a blank page and no prompt, which does not clear the site, because such pages can show different things to different visitors.
How do I stop Silenthill24.biz notifications?
Stopping them means blocking the site in the list of sites your browser lets send alerts. Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications, then pick silenthill24.biz, or any address you do not know, and choose Block.
Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications, then the three dots next to the entry > Block. Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Permissions, press Settings beside Notifications, change the site to Block and press Save Changes.
Safari on a Mac: Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications, then Deny. Android Chrome: three dots > Settings > Site settings > Notifications. Our 2022 report listed the same menus under their older names.
Why do I get Silenthill24.biz pop-ups on other sites, or with the browser closed?
Because they are not pop-ups from a page at all. They are browser notifications, which a site may send after you gave it permission, without any of its pages being open. The browser keeps the permission on its side, and the site's server hands messages to the browser's push service, so they appear over any site you visit.
Chrome and Edge normally stay alive in the background once the last window is closed, so alerts can still arrive then; Firefox shows them only while it is running. Taking the permission away fixes it, and switching off background running in Chrome or Edge closes the remaining gap.
I clicked Allow on Silenthill24.biz. What should I do now?
Remove the permission first, then check whether anything else happened. Block the site in the browser's notification list. If you only clicked Allow, nothing is installed and the browser steps are enough.
If you ran a downloaded file, uninstall programs you do not know by install date, run a Microsoft Defender full scan and an offline scan, and reset the browser.
If you typed a password or card details on a page that opened from an ad, change the password and call your bank about the card. Do this even though the page is blank today, because the permission stays.
Is the "Click Allow to confirm you are not a robot" message real?
No, the message is a trick. A real robot check, such as those some sites use against automated traffic, asks you to tick a box or solve a puzzle on the page. It never asks you to allow notifications, because notifications have nothing to do with proving who you are.
The same goes for "Click Allow to start downloading", "If you are 18+, click Allow" and "Click Allow to watch the video": the button is the browser's notification prompt, and the only thing it grants is permission for the site to send you messages. Click Block, or close the tab.
Do I need antivirus software to remove Silenthill24.biz?
Not for the notifications, which live in a browser setting and are switched off there. A scan makes sense in three cases:
- pop-ups or redirects carry on after the permission is gone
- your start page or search engine changed
- you ran a file that a page or an ad offered
Windows 11 and 10 already contain Microsoft Defender, with a full scan and an offline scan, and the browser reset deals with changed settings and extensions. We do not say that any product removes this address, because it is a website and no part of it sits on your PC.
How do I avoid sites like Silenthill24.biz?
Avoid the roads that lead to them. Our 2022 report says visitors are mostly sent by sites that hand out pirated software or stream copyrighted films, and by links on pages that were already compromised.
Next, shut the door: in Chrome, Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications. Do not press Allow for a site you did not ask to alert you. Take programs from their makers, pick Custom setup in installers to untick extras, and leave SmartScreen or Enhanced protection switched on.
Will Fortect remove Silenthill24.biz?
No program removes Silenthill24.biz itself, because there is nothing on the PC to remove: the notifications come through a permission saved in the browser, and only the browser's settings take it away, as the steps above show.
