Is Crypren virus a serious threat?

Within last week, there has been a boom of new ransomware entering the virtual stage. Crypren virus also hit the spotlight. Like any other virus of this group, it threatens personal data and locks it out using RSA algorithm. Contrary to other threats, it demands for a relatively small ransom. In any case, you should not act according to scammers’ expectations and do not make the financial transaction. Instead, consider Crypren removal as soon as possible.

Regarding the amount of money which is required in exchange for the locked data, the virus seems relatively modest. Some users have reported that a ransom equaled $45.42, another state – $250. There are some speculations that the malware was created by amateurs who are still making their first steps in the world of hackers. If Crypren threat has gripped your computer into its claws, do not make any reckless actions to pay the money. You can end up with no recovered data and no money as well.

Another peculiarity of Crypren ransomware is that it ads its “.encrypted” extension to all locked files. Thus, it is not difficult to distinguish between encrypted and uncorrupted files. After the virus settles on your computer, it leaves the READ_THIS_TO_DECRYPT.txt file on the desktop. You are encouraged to remit the payment within one week. Otherwise, the private key which is needed for decryption will be eliminated permanently. Even if the data was of crucial importance, do not fall into desperation. Luckily, the developers of this virus made a vital flaw. The copy of the decryption key can be found locally. Thus, IT professionals have managed to create a decoding tool.

The transmission of Crypren malware

This threat is seen traveling along with spam. In other words, cyber criminals have created persuasive spam emails which contain infected attachments. As a result of users’ curiosity, a relatively high number of users worldwide reported their computers to be infected with Crypren. Thus, when the attachment is open, the virus gets activated, and it takes off to encrypt the files.

Additionally, the virus may infiltrate your computer via exploit kits or so-called trojans. They are regarded as especially dangerous for their ability to pass themselves as legitimate files. Thus, at this point, it is of vital importance to have an anti-spyware program, for example, Reimage, on your system for it detect such threats as exploit kits.

In addition, Crypren virus may also disperse via peer-to-peer sharing and gaming websites. These websites are often filled with various hyperlinks and distracting advertisements offering to visit certain websites or purchase specific applications. All in all, you should not get carried away and avoid click on suspicious links and images. Finally, let us proceed to the section where will tell you how to remove Crypren effectively.
