Just to clear something: Skype and similar chatting applications are themselves safe and can be trusted, as long as they are downloaded from an official source, such as Apple's App Store. If you downloaded a copy of such an app from some shady website, immediately scan your device with reputable anti-malware.
However, malware can also be spread via these chatting applications, although if you don't click on suspicious links that are (mostly) coming from unknown people, you do not need any extra protection. In any case, we suggest you employ a third-party anti-malware designed for iOS - reputable security tools that can prevent most of the malware from accessing your device.
Remember, staying safe also lies within your hands, so be careful when clicking on links on social network platforms and chatting apps, even if they come from your friends (in some cases, users' accounts might get hijacked and send malicious links to everybody on the Friends list).
