Enjey ransomware / virus (Virus Removal Instructions) - Decryption Steps Included

Enjey virus Removal Guide

What is Enjey ransomware virus?

What kind of virus is Enjey Crypter?

Computer users should beware of Enjey virus, which is also known as Enjey Crypter ransomware virus. This malicious program was spotted at the beginning of March 2017, and it seems to be related to RemindMe ransomware virus. Sadly, the purpose of Enjey ransomware is to encrypt files on the target system and then try to convince the victim to pay a huge ransom[1] in exchange for a decryption tool. Enjey’s authors provide contact_here_me@india.com email address and command the victim to write to this email to find out what is their Bitcoin wallet[2] that the ransom needs to be transferred to. Ransomware virus is a sophisticated program and there is no way to guess the decryption key – only malware authors have it. And while there are a couple of poorly programmed ransomware viruses, Enjey malware seems to be created by a quite experienced programmer. However, its authors may have done a couple of mistakes when creating the ransomware, so do not lose hope to recover your files. We deeply recommend you not to pay the ransom if ENJEY CRYPTER attacked your PC – we know many cases when the victims did not receive the decryption tools after paying the ransom[3]. Instead, Remove Enjey using FortectIntego or SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner software.

Enjey ransomware virusThis is the ransom note that Enjey ransomware virus leaves on the compromised system. The ransom note is called README_DECRYPT.txt.

During the encryption procedure, virus scans the system and looks for files that have particular file extensions. If it finds a file with an extension that matches one from its target list – it encrypts it and also changes the filename of it by adding .encrypted.contact_here_me@india.com.enjey file extension. Once the ransomware encrypts all files, it outputs some information into a .txt file called README_DECRYPT.txt and saves it on a desktop. You might also find this file in some folders that hold encrypted data. The ransom note says:

ENJEY CRYPTER

Hello, your personal identity: [ID code]

All of your documents, photos, databases and other important data have been encrypted.
To get a decoder, please contact me by e-mail: contact_here_me@india.com
In the message write the following: “Hey, I need a decoder + your personal identifier.“
You will receive Bitcoin wallet, which will need to pay.

[Instructions on how to set up a Bitcoin wallet]

Attention!
Do not try to do something on your own, you can lose all your data!
Do not rename all files are encrypted!

How did I get infected with Crypto-Locker Enjey?

You could get infected with Enjey ransomware after opening a malicious email attachment[4] – this method is widely used by many ransomware developers. They create short messages that are meant to convince the victim to view files attached to the message. Typically, they say that the victim needs to see an invoice, document, or pay a fine. Of course, the attachment contains ransomware, which starts encrypting victim’s files right away. Another trick that ransomware creators use to infect computers is based on exploit kits[5]. Exploit kits are tools that scan the victim’s system for vulnerable software and then use it for command execution. The best way to protect yourself from such attacks is to have the latest versions of all programs (update your programs frequently or enable automatic updates). It goes without saying that having a data backup can also help you in case your files get corrupted by malware. If you do not have a backup, do not forget to create it!

What is the best way to remove Enjey Crypter?

Enjey Crypter virus will damage your system without any hesitations and aggressively demand a ransom. We suggest you keep your money for yourself and remove Enjey virus right away. There is no point in paying the ransom because chances are, it won’t help you to recover your files. For Enjey removal, install and run a decent anti-malware software. Getting rid of Enjey virus. Follow these steps

Manual removal using Safe Mode

First things first, reboot your PC into a Safe Mode with Networking before running your malware removal software.

Important! →
Manual removal guide might be too complicated for regular computer users. It requires advanced IT knowledge to be performed correctly (if vital system files are removed or damaged, it might result in full Windows compromise), and it also might take hours to complete. Therefore, we highly advise using the automatic method provided above instead.

Step 1. Access Safe Mode with Networking

Manual malware removal should be best performed in the Safe Mode environment.

Windows 7 / Vista / XP
  1. Click Start > Shutdown > Restart > OK.
  2. When your computer becomes active, start pressing F8 button (if that does not work, try F2, F12, Del, etc. – it all depends on your motherboard model) multiple times until you see the Advanced Boot Options window.
  3. Select Safe Mode with Networking from the list. Windows 7/XP
Windows 10 / Windows 8
  1. Right-click on Start button and select Settings.
    Settings
  2. Scroll down to pick Update & Security.
    Update and security
  3. On the left side of the window, pick Recovery.
  4. Now scroll down to find Advanced Startup section.
  5. Click Restart now.
    Reboot
  6. Select Troubleshoot. Choose an option

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open Windows Task Manager.
  2. Click on More details.
    Open task manager
  3. Scroll down to Background processes section, and look for anything suspicious.
  4. Right-click and select Open file location.
    Open file location
  5. Go back to the process, right-click and pick End Task.
    End task
  6. Delete the contents of the malicious folder.

Step 3. Check program Startup

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open Windows Task Manager.
  2. Go to Startup tab.
  3. Right-click on the suspicious program and pick Disable.
    Startup

Step 4. Delete virus files

Malware-related files can be found in various places within your computer. Here are instructions that could help you find them:

  1. Type in Disk Cleanup in Windows search and press Enter.
    Disk cleanup
  2. Select the drive you want to clean (C: is your main drive by default and is likely to be the one that has malicious files in).
  3. Scroll through the Files to delete list and select the following:

    Temporary Internet Files
    Downloads
    Recycle Bin
    Temporary files

  4. Pick Clean up system files.
    Delete temp files

How to prevent from getting ransomware

Access your website securely from any location

When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address.

If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for the server or network manager that needs to monitor connections and activities. VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world.

Recover files after data-affecting malware attacks

While much of the data can be accidentally deleted due to various reasons, malware is one of the main culprits that can cause loss of pictures, documents, videos, and other important files. More serious malware infections lead to significant data loss when your documents, system files, and images get encrypted. In particular, ransomware is is a type of malware that focuses on such functions, so your files become useless without an ability to access them.

Even though there is little to no possibility to recover after file-locking threats, some applications have features for data recovery in the system. In some cases, Data Recovery Pro can also help to recover at least some portion of your data after data-locking virus infection or general cyber infection.
