InfinityLock encrypts files with RSA algorithm and threatens to delete them

The ransom note by InfinityLock ransomware

InfinityLock is a ransomware-type virus that spreads as an Adobe Premier “crack.” It uses sophisticated encryption cipher to corrupt files on the device. Following this procedure, it changes computer’s desktop picture and delivers a ransom note called “INFINITYLOCK_UNIQEID.TXT.”

During data encryption malware appends a random file extension to various targeted files, such as images, audio, video, archives, documents and other files. The ransom note claims that InfinityLock virus uses RSA 2048 cipher. Thus, encoded data cannot be unlocked without specific decryption tool.

Authors of the InfinityLock ransomware claim that victims can buy decryptor for 0.17 Bitcoins. In order to scare victims and convince them to follow the instructions, criminals threaten to delete their files if people try to eliminate the virus. However, currently, there’s any proved information about malware’s ability to destroy data.

InfinityLock shows a fake Command Prompt window that informs about ransomware attack. However, further terms and instructions of data recovery are provided in the new background picture and the ransom note in the .txt file. Victims are asked to send Bitcoins to the provided address and include their ID number in the description. Then files are supposed to be decrypted automatically.

However, security experts do not recommend following these instructions and paying the ransom. Authors of the malware might not have a working decryption software or do not permit you to use it. Thus, you should avoid their threats and focus on InfinityLock removal.

The first thing you have to do after ransomware attack is to obtain a professional malware removal program, such as Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego. It will help to remove InfinityLock safely from the system. Detailed explanation on how to succeed with the elimination is given at the end of the article.

The example of InfinityLock ransomware virus attackAfter the attack, InfinityLock ransomware delivers a fake Command Prompt window and changes affected computer's desktop picture.

Dissemination methods of the file-encrypting virus

The malware spreads as a PremiereCrack.exe file. Users are most likely to download this file as an Adobe Premier “crack.”[1] Therefore, people usually get infected after installing fake or illegal software. Thus, to avoid this (and many other) ransomware viruses, you should always choose legal and credible software.

Other ways how ransomware might enter the system are:

  • malicious spam email attachments;
  • exploit kits;
  • fake updates;
  • malvertising;
  • unprotected RDP configuration.

Security experts from Finland[2] report that installation of reputable antivirus is not enough[3] to keep your device protected from ransomware. If you click or download an infected content, malware is likely to bypass your computer’s security and take your files to hostage.

InfinityLock malware removal instructions

As we have mentioned at the beginning, InfinityLock removal requires obtaining security software and scanning the device with the help of it. This malware belongs to the most dangerous ransomware viruses that make system changes. Thus, attempts to locate and delete malware-related files manually might lead to irreparable damage to your PC.

In order to remove InfinityLock safely, we recommend using Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego or Malwarebytes. If you cannot download these or your preferred anti-malware, please follow the instructions below. Malware might be resistant and prevent you from accessing security software.

Bonus: Recover your data

Guide which is presented above is supposed to help you remove InfinityLock from your computer. To recover your encrypted files, we recommend using a detailed guide prepared by security experts.

Currently, the official decryptor is not available. Therefore, you can recover all your files using backups only. If you do not have them, you should try third-party software that might help to get back at least some of the lost data.

If your files are encrypted by InfinityLock, you can use several methods to restore them:

Data Recovery Pro might be useful after InfinityLock attack

Originally, this tool helps to recover damaged or accidentally deleted files. However, it might be helpful after the ransomware attack as well.

  • Download Data Recovery Pro;
  • Follow the steps of Data Recovery Setup and install the program on your computer;
  • Launch it and scan your computer for files encrypted by InfinityLock ransomware;
  • Restore them.

Windows Previous Versions feature helps to get back individual files

This Windows feature allows traveling back in computer's time and accessing previously saved versions of files. However, you can use this method only if System Restore has been enabled before the attack.

  • Find an encrypted file you need to restore and right-click on it;
  • Select “Properties” and go to “Previous versions” tab;
  • Here, check each of available copies of the file in “Folder versions”. You should select the version you want to recover and click “Restore”.

ShadowExplorer allows taking advantage of Shadow Volume Copies

The virus is not expected to delete Shadow Volume Copies of the targeted files. Thus, this tool should help you to recover the data.

  • Download Shadow Explorer (;
  • Follow a Shadow Explorer Setup Wizard and install this application on your computer;
  • Launch the program and go through the drop down menu on the top left corner to select the disk of your encrypted data. Check what folders are there;
  • Right-click on the folder you want to restore and select “Export”. You can also select where you want it to be stored.

InfinityLock decryptor is not available yet.

Finally, you should always think about the protection of crypto-ransomwares. In order to protect your computer from InfinityLock and other ransomwares, use a reputable anti-spyware, such as Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego, SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes

Access your website securely from any location

When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. It is a hassle when your website is protected from suspicious connections and unauthorized IP addresses.

The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address. If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for server or network manager that need to monitor connections and activities. This is how you bypass some of the authentications factors and can remotely use your banking accounts without triggering suspicious with each login.

VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world. It is better to clock the access to your website from different IP addresses. So you can keep the project safe and secure when you have the dedicated IP address VPN and protected access to the content management system.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer from data losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Ransomware can encrypt and hold files hostage, while unforeseen power cuts might cause a loss of important documents. If you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work. It is also equally important to update backups on a regular basis so that the newest information remains intact – you can set this process to be performed automatically.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware strikes out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the data restoration process.
