HELP!
I think my PC just got infected with some new version of Cerber, or maybe a fake Cerber?
It left a ransom note called _READ__THIS_739Q_.txt, which says that I must install Tor browser, access some website and pay for the decryption.
I hope that is a joke? Can I recover my files somehow?
No, unfortunately, your PC is infected with the real Cerber ransomware. The line "Hi, I am Cerber ransomware" appears in the ransom notes created by the latest Cerber variants. Unfortunately, at the moment there are no tools capable of recovering files locked by this fearsome ransomware. Only a data backup can save lost files, and if you do not have it, then it is unlikely that you will succeed in recovering your files anytime soon.
Cerber is a powerful and sophisticated virus that uses advanced technologies to protect itself from being analyzed completely, therefore security researchers cannot find reverse this malware and help victims to recover their data.
