Hi there! I’m trying to find out if my facebook and email have been compromised due to a friends having a virus. Her messenger account started sending out “?” “.” and “whats the code?” and she said it wasn’t her. She took her phone and computer in to be looked at and he gave her a list of people who were “affected” by her virus. My email and facebook were on her list. Aside from the messages still coming through from her messenger account after it has supposedly been fixed i had a notification pop up on my iphone about an attempt to recover my gmail password but when i went to look in my email there was nothing there. I’m not sure where to go from here. I never clicked on any links nor were any sent to me from her. Is there a way for me to find out if i’m actually compromised? I’ve already run a virus scan on my computer and checked if there were any unknown devices signed in on my accounts and there wasn’t. TIA!

thank you for sharing your concerns with us. As long as we do not know what type of Facebook virus has attacked your friend, we can provide less information than we would want to. However, you can try looking at this article and identifying types of malware that have been attacking Facebook users and you might find a similar one.
If you have already run an anti-malware scan on your computer system and no suspicious things occurred, your system might be safe. However, a hundred percent guarantee cannot be given here either as some threats are likely to avoid the detection of AV engines. That is why we suggest performing check-ups with different reliable tools and measuring the provided results.
Talking about your email address, we recommend you change your password instantly. Even though not suspicious activity has been spotted there, you should still secure your email account at a higher level. What you can do is create a stronger password and turn on the two-factor authentication function for your account that might help to prevent hacking attempts.
Best Luck!
