Remove Lock2017 ransomware / virus (Virus Removal Instructions) - Quick Decryption Solution

removal by Lucia Danes - - | Type: Ransomware

Lock2017 ransomware can corrupt your files irretrievably

Lock2017 virus is an intolerable computer program that falls into ransomware category[1]. Once installed, it will encrypt all of your files including pictures, documents, videos, and other important files. This way, you can lose years of work in just a few minutes, because ransomware viruses act rapidly[2]. You might not even be able to notice a thing during the encryption process, except when the ransomware finishes its work and encrypts final files on the desktop. Lock2017 ransomware leaves a ransom note[3] then, which explains what happened to the computer and what needs to be done in order to recover corrupted files. Lock2017 malware names this ransom note as README.TXT file, and explains that all files were encrypted using RSA-2048 cryptography method. The ransomware note explains that the virus took the public key and encrypted all files with it, and created a decryption key at the same time. Sadly, the decryption key immediately gets transferred to criminals’ private servers, which means it becomes inaccessible for the computer user. Consequently, the virus wants the victim to do something in order to get this key. The virus asks the victim to get in touch with the criminals via two provided email addresses: lock2017@unseen.is or lock2017@protonmail.com. It asks to provide the victim’s ID, which is written in the ransom note, and wait for further instructions from ransomware authors. According to the message, their “specialist” should contact the victim within 24 hours. The victim is asked to contact criminals in 72 hours otherwise the “main server” will double the ransom price for the victim.

Lock2017 ransomware virusResearcher shows the ransom note (README.TXT) left by Lock2017 ransomware virus. Below, you can see a list of encrypted files - as you can see, the virus adds a very long extension to their filenames.

Questions about Lock2017 ransomware virus

The ransomware marks each encrypted file with an extremely long extension. The new file extension contains both email addresses in it. This is how the extension looks like: .id-[victim’s ID number(10 digits)]__contact_me_lock2017@protonmail.com_or_lock2017@unseen.is. We assume that the author of the virus wanted to be sure victim notices these emails… and contacts him/her immediately. However, if you noticed that your files became inaccessible, or that a suspicious .txt or .hta file reveals a message from strangers asking you to pay money to them, remove Lock2017 ransomware right away using anti-malware program (Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego or SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner). Although you might not be able to recover your files (if you do not have a backup), paying the ransom is not an option. It is also not safe, and you might just lose your money in exchange for for nothing. You can find some data recovery tips right below Lock2017 removal guide below the article.

How did I get infected with this ransomware?

Lock2017 malware certainly spreads via malicious spam[4], and that means you can get this ransomware via email. It might arrive in your Inbox in the form of a legitimate-looking document, archive, or PDF file, which, once opened, will execute the virus program and encrypt all your files. To prevent such disastrous events, you have to avoid emails coming from unknown people/companies. Do not be tricked and do not let your curiosity win, no matter what the email subject line says. Even if it says that you just got your medical test results or that you have an invoice waiting for a review[5], ignore it. The most important thing that you should do is to check the email address of the sender. Chances are, it contains a few grammar mistakes or comes from someone who obviously doesn’t use an official company’s email. Finally, we suggest you keep all your programs up-to-date and install an anti-malware software for computer protection.

How to remove Lock2017 ransomware and all malware from my computer?

Bonus: Recover your data

Guide which is presented above is supposed to help you remove Lock2017 from your computer. To recover your encrypted files, we recommend using a detailed guide prepared by 2-spyware.com security experts.

Recover your data from a backup, if you have it. If you do not, try one of the following tricks. One of them might help you to recover your files.

If your files are encrypted by Lock2017, you can use several methods to restore them:

Data Recovery Pro tool

Data Recovery Pro works perfectly when you need to restore some corrupted/deleted files. Although this tool might not be capable of restoring 100% of lost files, it is still worth a try.

  • Download Data Recovery Pro;
  • Follow the steps of Data Recovery Setup and install the program on your computer;
  • Launch it and scan your computer for files encrypted by Lock2017 ransomware;
  • Restore them.

Created a system restore point?

If you have created a system restore point, you can now recreate lost files. This is how you can do it.

  • Find an encrypted file you need to restore and right-click on it;
  • Select “Properties” and go to “Previous versions” tab;
  • Here, check each of available copies of the file in “Folder versions”. You should select the version you want to recover and click “Restore”.

Finally, you should always think about the protection of crypto-ransomwares. In order to protect your computer from Lock2017 and other ransomwares, use a reputable anti-spyware, such as Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego, SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes

Access your website securely from any location

When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. It is a hassle when your website is protected from suspicious connections and unauthorized IP addresses.

The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address. If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for server or network manager that need to monitor connections and activities. This is how you bypass some of the authentications factors and can remotely use your banking accounts without triggering suspicious with each login.

VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world. It is better to clock the access to your website from different IP addresses. So you can keep the project safe and secure when you have the dedicated IP address VPN and protected access to the content management system.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer from data losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Ransomware can encrypt and hold files hostage, while unforeseen power cuts might cause a loss of important documents. If you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work. It is also equally important to update backups on a regular basis so that the newest information remains intact – you can set this process to be performed automatically.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware strikes out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the data restoration process.
