Make Changes Removal Guide

What is Make Changes?

Make Changes – a browser hijacker that will redirect all search inquiries through a shady page

Make Changes browser hijackerPlease don't download this browser hijacker as it is falsely advertised

Make Changes is advertised as a browser extension that enables you to change the color of the text and background of the sites that your visiting to make reading easier. In fact, it's a potentially unwanted program[1] (PUP) that modifies browser preferences such as the default search engine, new tab, and homepage. By doing so, this browser hijacker redirects all search inquiries through fxsmash.xyz.

This enables it to inject ads into search results and collect non-personal data. Ads are usually shown as recommended searches or search results. They might be deceptive, as the ad's content doesn't match the site you will be redirected to if any of them are clicked. This poses a danger landing on a hazardous site with explicit, questionable, or malicious content.

For a limited time, Make Changes browser hijacker was available for download from Google Chrome Web Store. But such PUPs could also be installed without your direct consent. Whatever the case may be, you have to remove it, and in this article, you'll find out how.

In many cases, browser hijackers are falsely advertised as useful additions to your browsers that will improve browsing quality, speed, privacy, security, and other aspects. In reality, Make Changes virus, VideoSearchz virus, Searchmy.co virus, Ctcodeinfo.com virus, and others do the exact opposite.

First of all, such cyber threats alter your browser settings. All searches are going through one shady website or a chain of them until the results are shown from a search engine of their choice. Then, deceptive ads of affiliated pages are injected into the search results.

By causing redirects through questionable portals, these potentially unwanted programs are able to collect various browsing-related data, including:

  • device and browser details,
  • geolocations,
  • IP addresses,
  • visited pages,
  • used apps,
  • search inquiries, etc.

Advertisers mainly use such data to customize ads specifically for you, making them irresistible. However, if the collected info fell into the wrong hands, it could be misused for malicious purposes. And lastly, Make Changes browser hijacker could open new tabs with any of its affiliated sites, thus exposing you to the dangerous material.

We recommend not to use this software. Whether you've installed it willingly or don't know how it got on your device – it's time to remove it. If installed as an app, then a scan with reliable security tools such as SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes will detect, isolate, and eliminate it.

If it's on your system as a browser extension, please refer to the bottom of the article where free removal instructions are displayed. After you remove the browser hijacker, security experts[2] recommend using the ReimageIntego app to repair any system inconsistencies that the PUP might have caused.

Keep your device safe by removing Flash Player and not downloading its updates

Adobe discontinued Flash Player support on the last day of last year and recommends removing this software from every device for security purposes. Since not many people know this, cybercriminals still distribute their harmful creations camouflaged as Flash Player installers or updates.

Ads or prompts suggesting that you need to update or install this software are usually seen on suspicious or hacked sites. The download will most certainly contain a potentially unwanted program, or even worse – severe malware infections, such as ransomware, keyloggers, Trojans,[3] etc.

Thus if you ever encounter a prompt stating that Flash Player on your device requires an update, please note that it's fake and possibly malicious. Please close the tab or the entire browser, clear its history, and never revisit the questionable website.
