Remove My Search Bar (Free Instructions)

removal by Olivia Morelli - -   Also known as MySearch | Type: Browser hijacker

What is My Search Bar?

My Search Bar is a commercial Internet Explorer add-on but you may discover it on your Mozilla Firefox and other web browser. This toolbar allows searching the web with the help of the most popular search engines. However, it may also display altered search results and advertising links in them. MySearchBar virus can be installed manually or in a bundle with freeware/shareware. Lots of ad-supported applications can trick you into adding it to the system, so you should double check them before installing.

The official My Search Bar web page states, that “it is an add-in toolbar for the Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers which helps you to quickly search the web using multiple search engines, like Google,, and Yahoo. All those search engines add, near the search results, some sponsored listings, and we are paid on a revenue share model on advertisement revenues. “ So, My Search Bar virus even warns you that it can collect your activity on the Internet, share it with third parties and cause numerous sponsored ads during your browsing. After clicking them, you may notice MySearchBar redirects to other websites. In addition, it admits that these activities help for its developers to earn the money via pay-per-click method: “as any other search engine, My Search Bar shows related sponsored listings in the search result pages. They are paid from an advertiser on a pay-per-click model.“ Remember that all these advertisements use your PC resources, so the performance of your computer may slow down. Moreover, some of these redirects may lead you to malicious websites, so you shouldn’t click on them. Generally, if you want to stay safe, we recommend staying away from suspicious search engines like this one. Use a well-known search engine instead of the questionable ones you have never heard about before. If you want to use an alternative and reliable search engine, you should delete My Search Bar. For that, you can download Reimage to detect and remove all computer threats that are hiding in it.

How can My Search Bar hijack my computer?

There are two ways how this program may enter your computer – you can download the MySearchBar browser hijacker from its official site, but most commonly this app is spread with other free programs. It comes together in a bundled program packs. If you have downloaded some free applications off the web recently, most likely you’ve got MyWeb Search browser hijack with one of them. You probably rushed through the installation setup clicking „next“, „I agree“, chose „default“ or „standard“ installation options, and clicked „finish“. The most important step is to choose the right installation settings. Always opt for „custom“ or „advanced“ options. Untick all the undesirable extra applications that you didn’t ask for. This way you will avoid the bundled adware, viruses, unnecessary system tools or browser hijackers.

    Here you go guys:

Send your thanks to Ad-Ware Remover Inc. I work for them!

Please follow the instructions below if you would like to remove My Search Installer.B manually. Please notice that you must follow the instructions very carefully and delete everything that is mentioned. In most cases the removal will fail if one single item is not deleted. If My Search Installer.B remains on your system after stepping through the removal instructions, please double-check by stepping through them again.

Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then Run. (The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The registry editor will open.)
    Browse to the key:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion RunOnce'
In the right pane, delete the value called 'SearchBar Installer', if it exists.
    Exit the registry editor.
    Restart your computer.
    Delete the following file:
Note: %ProgramsDir% is a variable. By default, this is C:Program Files.

    Cheers All;

A good program to get that will help you remove programs such as MY search bar is Hijackthis. Its will scan the registry for you and display all results for somebody that knows whats good and possible registry entries that could be spyware. Most but not all will be spyware. Have hijackthis scan your system and then copy and paste the bad and they will tell you what entries you can delete. Also to compliment this you should get a good adware/malware/spyware remover such as Adaware or Spybot search and destroy or microsoft anti spy

iMesh now uses a My Seach Spyware toolbar call the iMesh Bar. It can be removed by the Add or Remove Programs but it still leaves spyware keys in the registry that can be removed by Spybot Search & Destroy. The iMesh forum claims that it is only adware and tells people that it is safe.

Good News. If you can manage the responsibility of regedit, the file C:Program FilesMyWay actually had an Uninstall Readme file that stated word for word which keys needed removal, then after restarting my computer I was able to delete the files. 🙂
