News-hetayi.cc is a bogus website meant to generate revenue from pay-per-click advertising. It uses social engineering methods to trick people into subscribing to push notifications. Users start getting spammed with annoying pop-up ads that can appear even when the browser is closed.

In reality, by clicking “Allow” users grant the site permission to show push notifications. They can appear randomly, at different time intervals, which depends on how the fraudsters configurated the settings.

Distribution methods

Push notification spam sites, such as News-hetayi.cc are rarely found through search results. Usually, they hide in other shady pages that are unregulated. For example, illegal streaming platforms are full of deceptive ads, and sneaky redirects. You should stay away from big “Download” and “Play” buttons as they are often fake.

Even if you do click on one, and a new tab opens with a suspicious site, that asks you to unblock access, do not interact with it and exit it immediately. However, pop-up spam can appear even without any user input. This could occur if there is a PUA hiding in your machine.
