PerfectConverters browser hijacker Removal Guide

What is PerfectConverters browser hijacker?

PerfectConverters can disturb users' browsing experience by changing the main settings

PerfectConvertersPerfectConverters forces people to use only selected channels for browsing

PerfectConverters is a browser hijacker that changes the main settings. It changes the homepage to portal.perfectconverters.com and the search queries get redirected through feed.perfectconverters.com to search engines like Yahoo, Bing, Searchlee, and Nearbyme.

Even though Bing and Yahoo are legitimate search engines, the other ones are not. If your search queries get redirected to them, you might expect to see many promotional links in the search results, ads inserted between the results, and redirects to suspicious pages.

This add-on does not provide any useful functions. It has a couple of basic features that can be accessed with a click of a button on almost every default browser – a PDF file converter, calculator, currency converter, and the ability to bookmark pages. It is unknown if any of them are even functional.

You should immediately remove the intruder as it can lead to dangerous websites that can lure out your personal information, trick you into downloading PUPs (potentially unwanted programs),[1] and even malware. Crooks may use rogue advertising networks that place ads leading to scam sites.

Distribution methods

Usually, users infect themselves with browser hijackers by browsing through shady pages. This can include sites that engage in illegal activities, like illegal streaming platforms. They are unregulated, so often they are full of deceptive ads and sneaky redirects. Also, people may get fooled by fake “Download” and “Play” buttons that can redirect to scam sites.

Bogus “Download” pages can also be the source of infection. They use social engineering techniques to make users believe that they have to install a browser extension to be able to access content, continue to the page, etc. It is important to use only official web stores and developer sites whenever you are looking for browser plugins.

Apps that get listed there, go through an extensive review process. However, you should still always do your research. Read the reviews, look at the ratings, and the number of users an application has. It is best to choose those add-ons that have plenty of positive feedback and thousands of users.

Another possibility is that the PerfectConverters extension was added to your browser after freeware[2] installations. Such platforms often include bundled software in the installers to generate revenue. Many people skip through the steps so they do not notice the additional programs.

You should always choose the “Custom” or “Advanced” installation method, read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use to find out what the program will be able to do on your machine and what data it will collect. The most important part is to look at the file list and untick the boxes next to those that seem unrelated or suspicious.

Clear your browsers

We suggest using FortectIntego maintenance tool to clear your browsers and completely eliminate any remaining damage. This software is capable of getting rid of cookies[3] and cache that are used to gather data like your IP address, geolocation, websites you visit, links you click on, and things you purchase online.

It can also optimize your device and improve performance by deleting all junk files that you do not need. But this is not a single-use program. It can fix much more complicated problems like system errors, corrupted files, registry issues, and BSoDs[4] which is especially useful after a virus infection.

Scan the system to detect adware

The hijacking could have been caused not only by a browser extension but also by a PUP. If the previous removal method did not get rid of unwanted symptoms, this step should fix it. Adware usually hides in the background of the machine performing unwanted tasks sneakily. Many users do not know about the infection until they start experiencing unpleasant symptoms.

Identifying the program responsible for hijacking your browser might be difficult if you have never done this before. It could be disguised as an antivirus suite, image editing software, media player, system optimizer, or anything else. PUA developers often disguise their products as handy tools so that users would not suspect them of any harm.

If you are not sure what to do and you do not want to risk eliminating the wrong files, we suggest using SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner or Malwarebytes security tools that will scan your machine, eliminate it, and prevent such infections in the future by giving you a warning before a malicious program can make any changes. How to prevent from getting browser hijacker

Choose a proper web browser and improve your safety with a VPN tool

Online spying has got momentum in recent years and people are getting more and more interested in how to protect their privacy online. One of the basic means to add a layer of security – choose the most private and secure web browser. Although web browsers can't grant full privacy protection and security, some of them are much better at sandboxing, HTTPS upgrading, active content blocking, tracking blocking, phishing protection, and similar privacy-oriented features. However, if you want true anonymity, we suggest you employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN – it can encrypt all the traffic that comes and goes out of your computer, preventing tracking completely.

Lost your files? Use data recovery software

While some files located on any computer are replaceable or useless, others can be extremely valuable. Family photos, work documents, school projects – these are types of files that we don't want to lose. Unfortunately, there are many ways how unexpected data loss can occur: power cuts, Blue Screen of Death errors, hardware failures, crypto-malware attack, or even accidental deletion.

To ensure that all the files remain intact, you should prepare regular data backups. You can choose cloud-based or physical copies you could restore from later in case of a disaster. If your backups were lost as well or you never bothered to prepare any, Data Recovery Pro can be your only hope to retrieve your invaluable files.
