yt1s.com pop-up ads: shut down in 2025, how to remove its notifications
yt1s.com was a free website that converted YouTube links to MP3 and MP4 files, and the music industry body IFPI announced its shutdown in October 2025. Our 6 October 2026 test found only IFPI's notice at the address, so what is left to deal with is a notification permission allowed years ago, which you take back in the browser settings.

What yt1s.com was and how it worked
yt1s.com was a website, not a program: you pasted a link to a YouTube video and it gave you the sound or the video as a file. In October 2025 the music industry body IFPI announced that it had shut the site down, and the address now shows IFPI's notice instead of a converter.

Why do converters like this exist? Video sites offer downloads only through their own paid features, and a converter fills the gap. It earns from whatever surrounds the box, which is why this kind of page has a name for pop-ups, ads and notification requests. IFPI calls the whole business illegal; the section on the law below says what that means for a visitor.

Our test on 6 October 2026
We opened yt1s.com the way a visitor does, in a clean desktop Chromium browser from Lithuania, and looked at what loaded. This is one visit and nothing more: it shows what the address does today on that one visit, not what any copy of the name does.

After Allow: scare notifications on the desktop
The picture from that report shows four copies of one notification from yt1s.com in Chrome on a Mac: "Mac is Full of Virus?" and "Clean it up Now!", with Close and Settings buttons. It is an ad, not a scan: a website cannot look at your files, and a notification is only a message from the site that you allowed. We have not seen it ourselves in 2026.

IFPI announces the shutdown
IFPI said it had closed Y2mate.com and 11 other stream-ripping sites after enforcement action in Vietnam, and that the operator "agreed to shut down the sites for good". It says most of the domains, including Yt1s.com, are now in its possession. The registry record for yt1s.com was changed the same day.

Check the address bar before you paste a link into any converter. TorrentFreak, reporting on the closure, wrote that sites like these can be launched and relaunched very quickly, so a page that carries the old name today is not the site IFPI shut down, and it should be judged on what it asks you to do. A page that asks you to allow notifications, install an extension or download a "player" before it gives you a file is the behaviour to leave.
The real risks, from most to least serious
Seeing yt1s.com in ads or notifications does not by itself mean a program is on your device. In most cases it is a permission saved in the browser. These are the ways it can still go wrong.

Running a file that came from an ad or a prompt
Ads and notification links can lead to fake players, fake updates and bundled installers. Adware, browser hijackers and sometimes real malware get onto a device when someone runs one. Adware is only the milder outcome; the operators of such ads advertise whoever pays and do not check where the link leads, so the page you land on can be a tech-support scam or a download that installs more unwanted programs.

One click on Allow lets a site show notifications on the desktop or the phone until you take the permission back. That is how "yt1s.com" can appear on a screen while no browser tab is open on it. It is a browser setting, so it is not in the list of installed apps, and a scan does not remove it. This applies to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a PC or Mac, and to Chrome on Android. Chrome and Edge can show notifications after the window is closed because by default they keep running in the background.

Clear the site data
Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, choose All time, tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, and click Delete data.
Reset Chrome
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults and confirm with Reset settings. This resets the start page, search engine and pinned tabs and turns off extensions; bookmarks and saved passwords stay. To stop notifications after you close Chrome, also turn off Settings > System > Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

Edge stores its own permission list, separate from Chrome's, and it is often the browser behind these pop-ups on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Clear the site data
Open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Delete browsing data > Choose what to clear, set All time, tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, and click Clear now.
Reset Edge
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values and confirm with Reset. Extensions are turned off and the start page goes back to default; favourites, history and saved passwords stay. Clear cookies and site data

Take back the notification permission
Safari on macOS (menu names as in the current Apple guide): open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications, select
yt1s.com(or any site you do not recognise) and set it to Deny, or click Remove. Untick Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications at the bottom so no site can ask again.Remove extensions you do not recognise
In Safari > Settings > Extensions, select anything you did not install yourself and click Uninstall.
Clear the site data
In Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, remove the site's data, or use History > Clear History > all history. To empty the cache as well, turn on Show features for web developers in Settings > Advanced and choose Develop > Empty Caches.
Check the Mac for apps from the ads
Ads also target Mac users with fake players and "cleaners". In Finder > Applications, move anything unknown to the Bin. In System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions, remove unknown items. Then use Go > Go to Folder to check
/Library/LaunchAgents,~/Library/LaunchAgents,/Library/LaunchDaemonsand/Library/Application Supportfor folders and files with the same unknown names, and empty the Bin.
Then, whichever browser you use
Step 2: Scan the PC if you downloaded anything from the ads
Most people who only saw the notifications can skip this step. If a notification or the page it opened made you download or run a file, delete the file and run a full scan, then a Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
In Windows 11 and Windows 10 open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, select Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) and click Scan now. The PC restarts and the scan takes about 15 minutes, so save your work first.

After removal: keep the ads from coming back
On an Android phone or tablet
Chrome on Android keeps its own list of sites that may send notifications. The same permission, taken back on the phone, stops them there.

Do the same in any other browser installed on the phone, not only the default one.
If the ads continue after the permission is gone, the next steps are the browser's extensions and site data (for Chrome, the "More for Chrome" steps above) and, as the last option, resetting Chrome. A reset turns extensions off and returns the start page and search engine to default; bookmarks and saved passwords stay.
If you clicked an ad or ran a file
The browser steps above are enough if you only saw notifications. If an ad or a prompt led you to download or run something, do these three things as well, and do them before the browser steps if the browser keeps being changed again.

Uninstall what came with it
On Windows 11 open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Apps & features in Windows 10), sort by install date and uninstall anything installed on the day you used the converter or clicked the ad (Uninstall a program or app in Windows On uGetFix). Adware can be named like a legitimate app. On a Mac, move anything unknown from Finder > Applications to the Bin; the Mac steps are under Safari above.

Scan, then scan offline
On Windows run a Microsoft Defender Full scan, then the Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), which finds trojans, remote-access tools and backdoors that hide while Windows runs. Follow what the scanner reports.

Reset the browser
Programs from ads often change the start page, search engine or extensions. Use the reset step for your browser above, and remove any converter add-on you installed.
A scan does not take back a notification permission, because the permission is a browser setting and not a file. Nor is it a tool that "repairs" Windows after notifications: if the ads stopped after the permission was removed, there is nothing more to repair. If you typed a password, card number or other personal details on a page an ad opened, change that password now and call your bank about the card.
How to keep it from happening again
Do
- Treat a site's request to show notifications as a question about advertising: allow it only for sites you trust and visit often, such as your news or mail service.
- Turn off notification requests: in Chrome, Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications.
- Read the privacy policy and terms of a converter before you use it: they say what it records, and whether it offers extra software.
- Download programs only from their makers' sites or the Microsoft Store.
- When an installer offers Custom or Advanced setup, choose it and untick pre-selected extra programs and offers hidden in the fine print.
- Keep Microsoft Defender SmartScreen on, or Chrome's Enhanced protection: both warn before known malicious pages and downloads.
- Keep a current backup of your files (File History or OneDrive), so an infection or a failed disk does not cost you your documents.
- On public networks, a VPN hides your IP address from the sites and ad networks you visit; it does not block ads or malware.
Don't
- Click Allow on a page that says you must allow notifications to continue, to download or to prove you are not a robot.
- Click a notification that says your Mac or PC is full of viruses or needs cleaning: it is an advertisement, not a scan.
- Run an
.exeor.msifile that a converter gave you in place of an MP3 or MP4. - Install a "player", codec or extension that a site demands before it gives you the file.
- Click random links and banners that appear out of nowhere on file-conversion, torrent and adult sites: careless clicking is how a milder problem becomes a serious malware infection.
- Trust a "system optimiser" or "repair" program that an ad recommends: many give no value and only look legitimate because they have a polished web page.
Safer ways to get music or a video's sound
A licensed service keeps the creators paid and involves no converter, ads or files from unknown servers.

If you still use a converter, use it in a browser profile where notifications are blocked, press only the button the converter itself made for your file, and scan anything that turned out to be a program instead of an MP3 or MP4.
Questions about yt1s.com
Is yt1s.com safe?
Right now the address is not a converter at all, so there is nothing on it to use. On 6 October 2026 yt1s.com showed a page titled IFPI with the text that the site has been shut down for copyright infringement.
It asked for no notification permission, opened no pop-up, registered no service worker and loaded no ads on that one visit. That test says nothing about other addresses that carry the name, and we did not test yt1s.gg or any copy.
Judge any page that uses the name by what it asks you to do: allow notifications, install an extension or download a player are all reasons to close it.
What happened to yt1s.com?
It was closed by the music industry body IFPI, which announced on 14 October 2025 that it had shut down Y2mate.com and 11 other stream-ripping sites, yt1s.com among them. IFPI says the operator agreed to shut the sites down for good and that most of the domains, including Yt1s.com, are now in its possession.
It does not name the operator or give the terms. The registry record for yt1s.com was changed on the same day, 14 October 2025, though it does not say what changed. Today the address shows IFPI's notice that the site has been shut down for copyright infringement.
How do I remove yt1s.com notifications?
Remove the site from the list of sites your browser lets send notifications. In Chrome open chrome://settings/content/notifications, in Edge edge://settings/content/notifications, and in Firefox Settings > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Notifications > Settings. In Safari on a Mac choose Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications and set the site to Deny.
On Android open Chrome > More > Settings > Site settings > Notifications. Delete yt1s.com and any address you do not recognise, and do it in every browser and profile you use. No program has to be uninstalled; the permission was a browser setting.
Is yt1s.com a virus?
No, the site was never a program, and nothing about the address installs anything now. The word virus came from the ads and notifications that followed the site: in 2021 our picture showed it sending "Mac is Full of Virus?" messages. A notification permission is not malware, but it keeps delivering ads until you remove it in the browser settings.
You only need to uninstall programs and scan if an ad or a prompt led you to download or run a file. In that case uninstall what was installed that day, then run a Microsoft Defender full scan and the offline scan on Windows.
Why do I still get yt1s.com pop-ups or notifications?
Most likely a notification permission you allowed years ago is still saved in a browser, or the ads come from a different page that uses the name.
Our test of yt1s.com on 6 October 2026 found no notification request or pop-up, so the page is not producing them now, but we cannot see who can still send through an old permission.
Check every browser and profile for the site in the notification list, then check the extensions list, and then Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows, sorted by install date, for anything installed when the ads began.
Is it illegal to use yt1s.com?
IFPI says it is: its notice on the address states that stream-ripping sites that turn licensed streams into free downloads are illegal, and that using or operating them can lead to serious consequences, including a criminal conviction. Whether a single visitor breaks the law depends on the country and on what was converted, and this guide cannot give legal advice.
YouTube's terms allow downloads only through the features YouTube itself provides. Converting your own uploads or material in the public domain is a different case from keeping a commercial music video, whichever converter is used. The site itself is now closed.
Is yt1s.gg or another yt1s site safe?
We do not know, because we did not test them. yt1s.gg appears on IFPI's list of the 12 sites it closed in October 2025, together with yt1s.com. Any other address that uses the yt1s name is not connected to the original by anything we have seen.
TorrentFreak, reporting on the closure, wrote that sites like these can be relaunched quickly. Treat a page with the name as a new, untested site: do not allow notifications, do not install a player, codec or extension that it demands, and run nothing that arrives as an .exe or .msi in place of an MP3 or MP4.
What should I use instead of yt1s?
Use a licensed service. YouTube's own options are offline viewing with YouTube Premium, YouTube Music for songs, and downloads of your own videos from YouTube Studio. IFPI's notice on the closed address also points to its list of licensed music services at ifpi.org/pro-music.
None of these involves a third-party converter, ads or files from unknown servers. If you still choose a converter, use it in a browser where notifications are blocked, press only the download button for your file, and check that you got an MP3 or MP4 and not a program.
What if I clicked an ad from yt1s or ran a file it offered?
Act in three steps. First, uninstall what arrived with it: on Windows 11 open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, sort by install date and remove anything installed that day. Second, run a Microsoft Defender full scan and then the offline scan, and follow what it reports.
Third, remove extensions you did not install and reset the browser if the start page or search engine changed. If you typed a password or card number on a page an ad opened, change the password and call your bank about the card. If you only saw notifications, the browser steps are enough.
Will Fortect remove yt1s.com?
No program removes yt1s.com itself, because there is nothing on the PC to remove: the notifications come through a permission saved in the browser, and only the browser's settings take it away, as the steps above show.
