What is TranslationBuddy Toolbar?
TranslationBuddy Toolbar is a legitimate browser extension that can successfully work on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer web browsers and promises to translate any website into you preferred language. Once inside, it affects all web browsers that it manages to find on an infected computer and due to this it falls into the category of potentially unwanted applications.
This potentially unwanted program is closely related to ask.com because once TranslationBuddy Toolbar gets inside, it sets home.tb.ask.com as your default homepage and ask.com as a default search engine. It does so with the purpose to improve affiliate marketing, i.e. to promote third party products, to increase page ranking, collect sale leads and simply earn the money.
Be very careful because search results delivered by ask.com may contain various sponsored links and advertisements. The problem is that neither TranslationBuddy Toolbar nor ask.com does not accept responsibility for the content of the links and ads.
As a consequence, you may be redirected to a suspicious website and tricked into downloading another potentially unwanted program on an adware on your computer. Therefore, do not waste your time and remove this dubious application from your computer.

How can TranslationBuddy Toolbar infiltrate my computer?
TranslationBuddy Toolbar may get inside your computer right after you install a bundled freeware.
It should be noted that it cannot infiltrate the system and modify browser's settings without your permission. However, it relies on suspicious distribution method that very frequently tricks people into installing such and similar programs without noticing them.
Actually, you won't have to experience TranslationBuddy redirects if you would always pay close attention to the installation steps of various freewares and sharewares. It is commonly bundled with various music and video players, PDF translators or download managers and travels as an optional download attached to the main installer. Fortunately, it is possible to prevent its infiltration quite easily.
You have to select Advanced or Custom installation option and follow every step of the installation carefully. If you see suggestions to install TranslationBuddy Toolbar, set home.tb.ask.com as your default homepage or set ask.com as a default search engine, opt out of such check boxes and keep your computer away from potentially unwanted programs.

Step 1: Uninstall TranslationBuddy Toolbar
TranslationBuddy Toolbar is removed like any other program, from the list of installed apps. In Windows 11 that is Settings > Apps > Installed apps, in Windows 10 Settings > Apps > Apps & features, and in both you can also use Control Panel > Programs and Features.
Select TranslationBuddy Toolbar, click Uninstall and follow the uninstaller to the end. Then look at the entries just above and below it when the list is sorted by date: bundled programs install at the same minute.

Step 2: Remove it from startup
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and select Startup apps (Windows 11) or the Startup tab (Windows 10). Disable entries you do not recognise, especially ones with no publisher or with a name that copies a Windows component.
Right-click an entry and choose Open file location to see where it runs from: programs in

Step 3: Delete the folders left behind
Uninstalling often leaves the program's folders, and some threats reinstall themselves from them.
Press Windows + R, type
%LocalAppData%and press Enter, then do the same for%AppData%and %ProgramData%, and look for folders named after TranslationBuddy Toolbar, its publisher or created on the day the problem started.Delete those folders, and check

Step 4: Scan the PC, then run the offline scan
A scan finds the parts of TranslationBuddy Toolbar that the manual steps cannot see. In Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, start a Full scan and quarantine what it reports.
Follow it with Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) > Scan now, which restarts the PC and checks the disk while Windows and the malware are not running.
It takes about 15 minutes and works the same in Windows 11 and Windows 10. If either scan finds something, run the full scan again after removal until it comes back clean.

How can I remove TranslationBuddy Toolbar from my computer?
Since TranslationBuddy Toolbar redirects can cause you various troubles, you should remove this toolbar once you notice that it has already changed your default homepage and search engine.
Very often users complain that after removing it manually, it still remains on their web browser.
1. Click Start → Control Panel → Uninstall a Program. 2. When in the Add/Remove Programs/Uninstall a Program, look for TranslationBuddy Toolbar and other programs that are unknown to you.
3. Click 'Uninstall' and then OK to save the changes.
Google Chrome: 1. Open Google Chrome, click on the menu icon (top right corner) and select 'Tools' -> 'Extensions'. 2. Here, select unfamiliar plugins (TranslationBuddy, MyWay, MyWebSearch, etc.) and select trash icon to delete these entries.

Questions about TranslationBuddy Toolbar
Can I safely uninstall TranslationBuddy Toolbar?
If you did not install TranslationBuddy Toolbar yourself and it is not part of your hardware or a program you rely on, yes. Uninstalling an unwanted program does not harm Windows. Before you do, search the exact name and publisher to be sure it is not a driver tool, a printer utility or a game launcher with an odd name.
Then remove it from Settings, Apps, Installed apps. Ignore any offers or warnings in its uninstaller about losing protection or performance. Afterwards check Startup apps and your browsers for leftovers, and restart once to confirm that it does not reinstall itself.
TranslationBuddy Toolbar came back after I uninstalled it. Why?
Something else is reinstalling it. Common causes are a second program from the same publisher, a scheduled task that downloads it again, or a browser extension that keeps prompting for it. Sort Installed apps by install date and uninstall each entry from the same day that you did not choose.
Then open Task Scheduler and look in the Task Scheduler Library for tasks with updater-style names that you do not recognise. Check Startup apps in Task Manager too. If TranslationBuddy Toolbar still returns, start Windows in Safe Mode, uninstall it there and run a Microsoft Defender offline scan, which looks for loaders that ordinary scans can miss.
TranslationBuddy Toolbar will not uninstall. What can I do?
Close it first: in Task Manager, select every process with its name and click End task, and exit its tray icon. Then uninstall it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. If the uninstaller fails, shows an error or just reopens offers, restart Windows in Safe Mode, where third-party programs do not start, and uninstall from there.
Afterwards, delete its folders in C:\Program Files and %AppData%, remove its scheduled tasks and run a full scan in Windows Security. As a last step, System Restore to a date before the install can help.
Why does TranslationBuddy Toolbar reinstall itself?
Programs like TranslationBuddy Toolbar are often installed with an updater or a companion app whose job is to keep them present. When you uninstall the main program, the helper downloads it again at the next scheduled run or restart.
Find the helper by sorting Installed apps by date and by checking Task Scheduler and Services for entries with the same name or publisher. Remove them all, then delete leftover folders. Turning on Potentially unwanted app blocking in Windows Security also stops many reinstall attempts.
Do I need special software to remove TranslationBuddy Toolbar?
No. Windows has everything needed:
- Installed apps for the uninstall
- the Startup list and Task Scheduler for what restarts it
- Windows Security for a scan afterwards
The steps in this guide take about fifteen minutes. A dedicated tool is a convenience when you would rather not check each place yourself or when the program keeps coming back.

How do I stop programs like TranslationBuddy Toolbar from installing?
Turn on Potentially unwanted app blocking in Windows Security > App & browser control > Reputation-based protection settings, with both Block apps and Block downloads checked. Download programs from the developer's own site or the Microsoft Store, choose Custom in installers and untick extra offers, and treat large download buttons on file sites as ads.
Apps from the Microsoft Store are checked by Microsoft and uninstall cleanly. Keep real-time protection on, so that bundled offers flagged as unwanted are stopped before they install.
Is TranslationBuddy Toolbar safe to keep?
It is not dangerous in the way malware is: it does not steal passwords or encrypt files. It can still cost money through subscriptions, show ads that lead to scam pages, collect usage data and slow the start of Windows. If you installed TranslationBuddy Toolbar on purpose and find it useful, you can keep it:
- turn off start with Windows
- offers and data sharing in its settings
- choose Custom during updates
If you do not know where it came from, remove it, together with anything installed on the same day.
How do I remove TranslationBuddy Toolbar completely?
Work in three steps. First uninstall it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, together with anything installed on the same day. Second, remove what restarts it: unknown entries under Settings > Apps > Startup and tasks in Task Scheduler with matching names.
Third, clean the browsers: extensions you did not add and changed search settings. Restart and watch for translationBuddy Toolbar in the list of installed apps; if it does not come back within a day, the removal is complete.
If it does, run a Microsoft Defender offline scan, which works before Windows starts and finds helpers that hide while the PC runs.

It is unwelcome rather than destructive, based on what has been reported: translationBuddy Toolbar in the list of installed apps. The bigger concern is what arrived with them.
Bundled installers often add two or three programs at once, and some of those change the browser or install updaters that fetch more software later.
