Y2meta.com was a free YouTube converter that our 2021 report found asking for notification permission, with ads and a Chrome extension button around it. On 6 October 2026 the address opened a news-style page on another domain and asked for nothing on one visit, so what is left to remove is a notification permission, an extension or a file you took from the old site's ads.

What Y2meta.com was and how it worked
Y2meta.com was a website, not a program: you pasted the link of a YouTube video and the page offered the video, or only its sound, as a file. Our 2021 report found notification requests, ads and a Chrome extension button around that converter.

Video sites give no download button for other people's videos, and converters like this one fill that gap. They live on advertising, which is why their pages were crowded with it, and why a name that people search for is reused after the original is gone.
Y2metta, y2metta.com and other misspellings of Y2meta
Y2metta is a common misspelling of Y2meta, the free YouTube converter this guide covers.
People type the extra t when they search for the site from memory. Search engines then show results for y2meta.com. Everything in this guide about notifications, the extension button and the ads applies to the name you meant to type.
We found no reliable source that describes a separate service called y2metta or y2metta.com. Our reading is that most searches for it are simple typos. A misspelled address can still lead somewhere unexpected, because anyone can register a domain that looks like a popular one and fill it with ads or download buttons.
To check any such name yourself, look at the full address in the browser bar before you click anything on the page. Paste the address into our link check at 2-spyware.com/check to see whether it has been reported.
Warning: Never allow notifications on a converter page, and never run a file that a converter page offers you.
If you already see pop-ups or notifications that name y2metta, y2meta or a similar spelling, the fix is the same as above. Open the notification settings of your browser, remove the site from the Allowed list, and remove any extension you do not remember adding. Run a scan only if you ran a downloaded file.
Is Y2meta.com dangerous?
Our test on 6 October 2026
On this one visit Y2meta.com was no longer a converter: the address sent us to a news-style page on headlinelogic.com that asked for nothing. That is what we saw once, not a clearance of the address.

Ad tiles with money offers in the visitor's language
Under the link box the same page showed picture tiles whose headlines were in Lithuanian and promised easy money, next to photos of banknotes and a cash machine. Ads like these are chosen by the visitor's country; the page itself did not need to know what they were. The portrait on the right of the picture is an illustration added by our editors, not part of the site.

Our report: a privacy policy and three prompts
Our guide, published on 3 August 2021, shows the site's privacy policy page, which names Muvi Office, "doing business as Muviapp", as the company, with three separate notification prompts open on the screen at once.

The name is registered again
The registry's creation date for y2meta.com is 10 June 2025, almost four years after our report, although our pictures show the site working in 2020-2021. A domain gets a new creation date only when it is registered anew, so the name was released and taken again. The registry does not say by whom, and nothing we found links the current holder to the 2021 operator.

The extension is the part most likely to still be on a computer: it stays after the site changes. Check it even if you do not remember adding one.

An extension can read the pages you open and change what they show, including search results, so one you did not choose is worth removing, whatever it was called. If the list holds a video downloader, a "search" or a PDF helper that you do not remember adding, remove it.
What the privacy policy said about your data
The policy in our 2021 picture said the company collects browsing information and may pass it to partners. A converter page cannot reach into your phone, so lines about your contacts and files do not fit the page.

Y2meta and Y2Mate: related, not proven the same
Our 2021 text called Y2meta "identical" to Y2Mate. The two are similar in what they offered and in the operator named in our pictures, and we have no proof that they are one service.

Other addresses use the same name: a search for "y2meta" or "y2mate" leads to many sites. We did not test them for this guide, and nothing on this page ties them to the original. Copies are where pushy notification requests and fake download buttons usually turn up, so check the address bar before you paste a link.
The real risks, from most to least serious
"Y2meta virus" is not an accurate term: the converter page itself installed nothing in the reports we have. These are the ways a visit could go wrong.

Running a file or extension that came from an ad
Ads and pop-ups on download sites can lead to fake updates, fake players, search-changing extensions and bundled installers. Our 2021 report warned that fake updates can bring malware. Running one is how adware, browser hijackers and sometimes real malware reach a PC.

Clicking Allow on a notification request
One click lets the site, or a page an ad opened, send ads to your desktop until you take the permission back. In Chrome and Edge they can arrive after the browser window is closed, because by default both keep running in the background; Firefox shows them only while it is open. Our 2021 report said the notifications mostly led to scam and clickbait pages that ask for financial details.

Surveys, prize draws and giveaways that ask for your name, e-mail address, phone number or card details. The money-offer tiles in our 2021 picture were of this kind. Do not fill in a survey you reached from an ad, and decline any offer to buy "protection" software from a pop-up: you would pay for a program you did not need.

Our 2021 report said the site could send visitors to its sub-domains, such as

Saving music and videos from YouTube is allowed only where the owner permits it, and YouTube's terms allow downloads only through its own features. Rules and penalties differ by country, so we cannot name a fine. Downloading your own uploads is fine.
How to remove Y2meta.com
How to stop Y2meta.com notifications
Do this in every browser you use, and in every profile inside it: each keeps its own list of sites allowed to send notifications.
Nothing has to be uninstalled for the notifications themselves.
Which browser shows the ads?
Step 1: Remove y2meta.com from Chrome's notification list
Open More (the three dots) > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications, or paste

Clear the site data
Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, choose All time, tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, and click Delete data.
Reset Chrome
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults and confirm with Reset settings. This resets the start page, search engine and pinned tabs and turns off extensions; bookmarks and saved passwords stay. To stop notifications after you close Chrome, also turn off Settings > System > Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

Edge stores its own permission list, separate from Chrome's, and it is often the browser behind these pop-ups on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Site permissions > All permissions > Notifications, or paste

Clear the site data
Open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Delete browsing data > Choose what to clear, set All time, tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, and click Clear now.
Reset Edge
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values and confirm with Reset. Extensions are turned off and the start page goes back to default; favourites, history and saved passwords stay. Clear cookies and site data
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data, tick both boxes and click Clear.
Refresh Firefox
Open the menu > Help > More troubleshooting information and click Refresh Firefox. Add-ons and custom settings are removed and the home page goes back to default; bookmarks, history and passwords stay.

Take back the notification permission
Safari 18 and later on macOS: open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications, select
y2meta.com(or any site you do not recognise) and set it to Deny, or click Remove. Untick Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications at the bottom so no site can ask again.Remove extensions you do not recognise
In Safari > Settings > Extensions, select anything you did not install yourself and click Uninstall.
Clear the site data
In Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, remove the site's data, or use History > Clear History > all history. To empty the cache as well, turn on Show features for web developers in Settings > Advanced and choose Develop > Empty Caches.
Check the Mac for apps from the ads
Ads also target Mac users with fake players and "cleaners". In Finder > Applications, move anything unknown to the Bin. In System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions, remove unknown items. Then use Go > Go to Folder to check
/Library/LaunchAgents,~/Library/LaunchAgents,/Library/LaunchDaemonsand/Library/Application Supportfor folders and files with the same unknown names, and empty the Bin.
Then, whichever browser you use
Step 2: Scan the PC if you downloaded anything from the ads
Most people who only saw the notifications can skip this step. If a notification or the page it opened made you download or run a file, delete the file and run a full scan, then a Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
In Windows 11 and Windows 10 open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, select Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) and click Scan now. The PC restarts and the scan takes about 15 minutes, so save your work first.

After removal: keep the ads from coming back
If you clicked an ad or ran a file
The browser steps are enough if you only saw notifications. If an ad led you to install an extension or run a file, do these three things as well. Removing it early saves you the long clean-up that comes when ads and installers pile up.

Uninstall what came with it
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11 (Apps & features in Windows 10), sort by install date and uninstall anything installed on the day you used the site (Uninstall a program or app in Windows On uGetFix). Remove the cause, which for a site like this is usually an extension or a program from an ad, not the website itself.

Scan, then scan offline
Run a Microsoft Defender Full scan, then the Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), which finds trojans, remote-access tools and backdoors that hide while Windows runs. Do this in every browser and on every Windows or Mac account you used for the site.

Programs from ads often change the start page, search engine or extensions. Use the reset step for your browser above.
If you typed a password, card number or other personal details on a page an ad opened, change that password now and call your bank about the card. Once the clean-up is done, go through "How to keep it from happening again" below.
How unwanted programs get onto a PC
Programs from sites like this do not need an exploit: you are asked to install them, in one of four ways.

A site that pays for itself with ads has no reason to warn you about this, which is why a security program that stays switched on and up to date is worth having. Windows 11 and 10 include Microsoft Defender at no cost.
How to keep it from happening again
Do
- Turn off notification requests: in Chrome, Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications.
- Download programs only from their makers' sites or the Microsoft Store.
- When an installer offers Custom or Advanced setup, choose it and untick extra programs and pre-ticked boxes.
- Keep Microsoft Defender and SmartScreen on (or Chrome's Enhanced protection) and let them update: they warn before known malicious pages and downloads.
- Add an ad-blocking extension if you want fewer ads. It hides ads on pages; it does not take back a notification permission you allowed, so also check the browser's notification list.
- Keep a current backup of your files (File History or OneDrive), so an infection or a failed disk does not cost you your documents.
- On public networks, a VPN hides your IP address from the sites and ad networks you visit; it does not block ads or malware.
Don't
- Click Allow on a page that says you must allow notifications to continue or to prove you are not a robot.
- Run an
.exeor.msifile that a video converter gave you. - Install a "player", codec or extension that a site demands before it gives you a video.
- Trust ads on converter, torrent and adult sites: they often come from ad networks that also sell space to scammers.
- Give your name, e-mail address or phone number to a survey or giveaway you reached from an ad.
Safer ways to save a video
Needing a copy of a video is normal, and it does not make you careless. Use the platform's own option first: it keeps the creator's rights intact and involves no third-party site.

If you do use an online converter, use it in a browser profile with notifications blocked, ignore every button except the download link made for your video, and scan any file that turned out to be a program instead of a video. A real video download is an .mp4, .webm or .mp3 file.
Questions about Y2meta.com
Is Y2meta.com safe to use?
We cannot recommend it: on 6 October 2026 the address no longer showed a converter, so there was nothing of the old service left to use.
Our browser ended on a news-style page on headlinelogic.com that asked for nothing on that one visit, which does not clear the address, because adware pages can act differently by country, device or second visit.
Our 2021 report found the converter asking for notification permission, with ads and a Chrome extension button around it. If you want a YouTube video, use YouTube's own offline feature or download your own upload from YouTube Studio instead of a converter.
Is Y2meta a virus?
No, the converter page itself installed nothing in the reports we have, so "Y2meta virus" is not an accurate name. What people called a virus came from notifications they allowed from the site, ads and pop-ups that opened scam or search-changing pages, and extensions or files taken from those ads.
A notification permission is not a virus, but it keeps delivering ads until you remove it in the browser settings. If you ran a file or added an extension from an ad, uninstall what appeared at that time, then run a Microsoft Defender full scan and an offline scan.
Why does y2meta.com open a news page on headlinelogic.com?
We do not know why, and the registry does not say. We know three facts. The registry shows y2meta.com was created on 10 June 2025 and last changed on 8 June 2026.
Its name servers are on parklogic.com, which we read as a parked domain: a name held to show a page full of headlines and ads.
Our test of 6 October 2026 ended on headlinelogic.com with the original name in the address. Nothing we found links the present holder to the converter in our 2021 report. Do not enter personal details on the page.
How do I stop Y2meta notifications?
Take the permission back in your browser, because it stays after you leave the site. In Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications, find y2meta.com, open the three-dot menu and choose Remove or Block. Edge and Firefox keep the same list in their own settings; the browser tabs above give each step.
Then check the list for other sites you do not recognise. Notifications that were sent through a push service can keep coming until the permission is removed, even if the site now shows something else, so do this even if the notifications look unrelated.
Is Y2meta the same as Y2Mate?
They are alike, but we have not proved they are the same service. Our 2021 pictures show both sites offering the same YouTube link converter, both asking to show notifications and both with a red Chrome extension button, and both privacy policies name Muvi Office, doing business as Muviapp.
That points to a shared operator in 2021. Today they differ: on 6 October 2026 y2meta.com led to a news-style page on another domain, while y2mate.com did not resolve on 4 October. Treat any site that uses either name as unrelated unless you can check it yourself.
Does Y2meta collect my data?
In 2021 its privacy policy said it collects browsing activity and technical details of your device and may pass them to partners. Any page that shows ads also lets ad networks see your address, browser and the pages you open.
Lines in the same policy about the contacts, pictures and videos on your phone do not fit a website: a browser page cannot read them unless you pick them.
Those lines fit a mobile app's policy, and we did not find or test an app. We could not read the policy again in 2026 because the old page is gone, so we cannot say what the current address collects.
Is it illegal to download YouTube videos with Y2meta?
Downloading is legal only where the owner permits it, and YouTube's terms allow downloads only through its own features. Rules and penalties differ by country, so we cannot name a fine, and the old claim of heavy fines was not backed by any case.
Your own uploads are yours to download from YouTube Studio. For other people's videos, the safer options are YouTube's offline download with Premium or the save options of each platform. The copyright question is separate from the security risk, which came from the ads and notifications around such converters.
What is the Y2meta Chrome extension?
Our 2021 pictures show a red "DOWNLOAD Chrome Extension" button in the corner of the Y2meta page, but our old guide did not name an extension or a store page, so we cannot point to one by name.
An extension can read pages you open and change search results, so remove one you did not choose. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome (edge://extensions in Edge, about:addons in Firefox) and remove video downloaders, search or PDF helpers that you do not remember adding. Then reset the browser if the start page or search engine changed.
I ran a file or visited s1.y2meta.com. What should I do?
If you only opened a page, remove the notification permission and the extensions as above and you are done. If you ran a downloaded file, uninstall anything installed that day in Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then run a Microsoft Defender full scan and the offline scan, and reset your browser.
In 2026 s1.y2meta.com answers from the same addresses as y2meta.com; we did not open it, so we cannot say what it shows. If you typed a password or card number into a page an ad opened, change that password at once and tell your bank about the card.
Will Fortect remove Y2meta.com?
No program removes Y2meta.com itself, because there is nothing on the PC to remove: the notifications come through a permission saved in the browser, and only the browser's settings take it away, as the steps above show.
What Fortect can do is check the rest of Windows. Its free scan looks for malware, unwanted programs and damaged system files, which is useful if you clicked the ads, downloaded something from the pages they opened, or are not sure what else changed on the PC.
If the scan finds nothing and the notifications stopped after you removed the permission, this problem is solved. Use Microsoft Defender as a second opinion whenever you have downloaded files from pages like these.
