Erceandblo.xyz is a fake website using social engineering tactics^[1] to fool users into thinking they will receive the latest news from it. The truth is, after giving the site permission to send push notifications it starts showing ads on users' screens instead. The pop-ups come from random sources that are not always trustworthy. The only purpose of this domain is to make the owners passive income from clicks on ads.

Users that have let this site send them push notifications are more likely to suffer from monetary losses^[2] or infect their machine with a virus. If users get redirected to this or similar pages often, this might be a symptom of an adware infection.

The page then urges to allow push notifications so you could access the site. But after granting permission, nothing happens, because there is no other content on this website. The only thing it will do is start sending pop-up ads that sometimes can appear even when the browser is closed.

Various phishing schemes^[3] and scams can pop up between legitimate promotions so it can be hard to distinguish real from fake. We do not recommend keeping permissions for this website turned on as it does not have any value whatsoever. All it does is expose you to promotional content which you have to get rid of all the time.

Privacy concerns

You can find a Privacy Policy on the site that seems to be copied and pasted from some page called “Celebsupdates”. The Policy is hard to read, so the owners probably do not want you to read it and notice that. The fact that the Privacy Policy is stolen from somewhere else is concerning because it is not clear what information this site actually collects.

4. Toggle the switch to the left to turn notifications off on Microsoft Edge.

MS Edge (Chromium):

1. Open Microsoft Edge, and go to Settings.
2. Select Site permissions.
3. Go to Notifications on the right.
4. Under Allow, you will find the unwanted entry.
5. Click on More actions and select Block.

Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internet Explorer, and click on the Gear icon at the top-right on the window.
2. Select Internet options and go to Privacy tab.
3. In the Pop-up Blocker section, click on Settings.
4. Locate web address in question under Allowed sites and pick Remove.
