limetorrent.info is a torrent website, not a program, and opening a page installs nothing. In our October 2026 test it sent a clean browser to another site on its own, so the risk is in its ads, the notification requests it can show, the proxy copies people look for, and the files downloaded from torrents.

limetorrent.info is a website, not a program: an address that belongs to the torrent-search family of sites, where a list of links points to files other people share. Opening a web page installs nothing by itself. The "limetorrent.info virus" people search for is the redirects, pop-up ads and notification requests around sites of this kind, and the files they lead to.

Is limetorrent.info dangerous?
Our test on 6 October 2026
We loaded https://limetorrent.info/ in a clean desktop Chromium browser from Lithuania, with no extension and no account, and clicked nothing. The page did not stay on its own address: the browser was taken to a live adult video-chat site. This is one visit from one place, so it shows what the address can do, not everything it does.

- Where we ended upStatus 200, but the address bar finished on a page of livejasmin.com, an adult live-video site with an 18+ notice and its own title. We did nothing to cause it: no click, no scroll.
- The routeOur tool recorded no middle steps, so we cannot say through which ad addresses the browser passed. It contacted 16 addresses in all, several with "click" in the name and several that served pictures for the final page. We did not look into who runs them.

Our first guide: a torrent site with notifications and redirects
We published the guide on 13 January 2021 and updated it on 17 June 2021. It described the address as a torrent-sharing site whose ads, banners and pop-ups lead to other sites, and said that its notifications and redirects can be mistaken for a virus. Our picture, from the limetorrents.info address, shows the browser's request "wants to Show notifications" with Allow and Block, and a list of notifications from the site with titles such as "Browser Search Update", "Free Risk-Free Scanning!" and "Your Macbook is getting slow!". None of these is a message from Chrome or Windows.

An advert that claims you are exposed
The same picture shows an orange box on a download page saying that without a VPN the visitor is "exposed to Government Agencies & Your ISP", with a button to get six months free. It is an advert placed by whoever pays for the space, not a warning about your connection. Our old text said the ads on the site push VPN services, rogue system tools and even security tools; the picture is the example.

The registry record shows a change on 12 August 2026 and a renewal date of 9 February 2027. A record change does not tell us who took part or what the site does now.

A clean browser was taken to a live adult video-chat site with no click. We saw no notification request on that one visit.
Look-alike addresses, mirrors and proxies
The name LimeTorrents is used on many addresses, and which one belongs to whom can change. People who search for "unblock limetorrent" or "limetorrent proxy" are usually sent to such copies. We opened only limetorrent.info, so we say nothing about the others.

If a page does not open from your network, we cannot tell you why: it may be blocked by your internet provider, taken down or changed. We do not recommend a way round a block, because the copies that rise to the top for that search are the ones with the most aggressive ads. The FTC explains that fake pages copy a real brand to push a download or collect details, so read the address bar before you type a sign-in or any detail.
The real risks, from most to least serious
"limetorrent.info virus" is not an accurate name: loading a page installs nothing on its own. These are the ways a visit or a download can still go wrong, in the order we would worry about them. Our 2021 guide said the same things less carefully, and each of its points is covered here.

Running a file from a torrent or an ad
Torrents named as cracks, keygens, activators or full versions of paid software are where adware and trojans are commonly hidden, and a fake player, scanner or update from an ad is the same trap. Our 2021 guide warned that untrustworthy pages can lead to direct downloads of potentially unwanted programs and to pages with malware. The ads that sent us to another site in 2026 are a reminder of how little control a visitor has over where a click lands. The FTC lists unfamiliar websites that give away music, movies, shows or games, and peer-to-peer file-sharing sites, among the things that can expose you to malware.

One click lets the site send adverts to the desktop until the permission is removed, and they keep arriving after the visit and after the browser is closed if it runs in the background. The law depends on the country and on the file: downloading a film, episode, album, game or program from a torrent without the owner's permission infringes copyright in many countries, and some internet providers pass on warnings. A video torrent normally holds .mkv, .mp4 or .avi plus subtitles; music holds .mp3 or .flac. If you only see one of the types above, delete it without opening it.
What an ad-funded site can learn about you
Our 2021 guide said that adware is made to show ads and to gather what you browse and like, and that advertisers use it for later campaigns. We did not read the site's own privacy policy in 2026 and the page we ended on is another company's, so the list below is what any site with ads can collect, not what limetorrent.info does.

Our old text added that programs of this kind collect IP addresses, location and browsing history. That is true of an unwanted program you installed; a site alone sees only what the browser sends it. If a program did come with a download, uninstall it right away and change any password you used afterwards.
How adware and a changed browser arrive with a download
Programs that add toolbars, change the start page or search engine, or open pages like this one arrive inside installers and with downloads. Our 2021 guide said freeware installers and careless clicking through setup are the most usual way, and that it is hard to say when it happened because the program loads quietly during the install.

A free tool is downloaded
A converter, a downloader, a video player, a cracked program or a torrent "setup" file, from a site that is not the maker's. Software from official providers and developers does not use this bundling.

The setup hides a choice
The quick path (Recommended, Express or Next) accepts bundled add-ons, toolbars or a second program. The Custom or Advanced path lists everything included and lets you untick what you do not want.

It replaces the start page, search provider or new tab, adds extensions that watch and redirect your browsing, slows the browser down, and sends visits to affiliate addresses, which is where an address such as this one can come in.

Clear the site data
Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, choose All time, tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, and click Delete data.
Reset Chrome
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their original defaults and confirm with Reset settings. This resets the start page, search engine and pinned tabs and turns off extensions; bookmarks and saved passwords stay. To stop notifications after you close Chrome, also turn off Settings > System > Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.

Clear the site data
Open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Delete browsing data > Choose what to clear, set All time, tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, and click Clear now.
Reset Edge
Open Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values and confirm with Reset. Extensions are turned off and the start page goes back to default; favourites, history and saved passwords stay. To stop notifications after you close Edge, turn off Settings > System and performance > Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed.

Clear cookies and site data
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data, tick both boxes and click Clear.
Refresh Firefox
Open the menu > Help > More troubleshooting information and click Refresh Firefox. Add-ons and custom settings are removed and the home page goes back to default; bookmarks, history and passwords stay.

Take back the notification permission
Safari 18 and later on macOS: open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications, select
limetorrent.info,limetorrents.infoor any site you do not recognise and set it to Deny, or click Remove. Untick Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications at the bottom so no site can ask again.Remove extensions you do not recognise
In Safari > Settings > Extensions, select anything you did not install yourself and click Uninstall.
Clear the site data
In Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data, remove the site's data, or use History > Clear History > all history. To empty the cache as well, turn on Show features for web developers in Settings > Advanced and choose Develop > Empty Caches.
Check the Mac for apps from the ads
Ads also target Mac users with fake players and "cleaners". In Finder > Applications, move anything unknown to the Bin. In System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions, remove unknown items. Then use Go > Go to Folder to check
/Library/LaunchAgents,~/Library/LaunchAgents,/Library/LaunchDaemonsand/Library/Application Supportfor folders and files with the same unknown names, and empty the Bin.
Then, whichever browser you use
Step 1: Scan the PC if you downloaded anything from the ads
Most people who only saw the notifications can skip this step. If a notification or the page it opened made you download or run a file, delete the file and run a full scan, then a Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
In Windows 11 and Windows 10 open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, select Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan) and click Scan now. The PC restarts and the scan takes about 15 minutes, so save your work first.

After removal: keep the ads from coming back
If you clicked an ad or ran a file
The browser steps above are enough if all you saw were notifications or redirects. If a page, an ad or a torrent led you to run something, or your start page or search engine changed, do these steps as well, and do them soon: the longer an unwanted program stays, the more it can change.

Uninstall what came with it
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11 (Apps & features in Windows 10), sort by install date and uninstall anything you installed on the day the problem began, and anything you do not remember choosing (Uninstall a program or app in Windows On uGetFix). Adware can also add files to the system folders and entries that start it with Windows, so check Startup apps in Task Manager afterwards.

Scan, then scan offline
Run a Microsoft Defender Full scan, then the Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan), which restarts the PC and checks it before Windows starts, where trojans and backdoors that hide in a running system are easier to see. If the scan names threats, follow the steps it gives and remove what it finds. A second scanner from a known maker, run on the same PC, can catch what the first did not; one full scan lists everything it finds and leaves the decision to you.

Reset the browser
Use the reset step for your browser above, then check the start page and search engine once more by hand. Resetting removes the extensions that redirect and the changed settings.

Protect the accounts
If you typed a password, card number or other details into a page an ad opened, change that password now from another device and call your bank about the card, as the FTC advises: stop using the accounts the malware may have seen, update your security software, run a scan and change the passwords.
A removal does not always put the system back as it was: unwanted programs can leave files and settings behind, and a browser-based problem can still need a whole-system check. If the PC is slow or odd after the scan, look at the installed apps and the startup apps again, and use Windows's own Reset this PC only when nothing else helps.
How to keep it from happening again
Do
- Turn off notification requests: in Chrome, Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications > Don't allow sites to send notifications.
- Get programs only from their makers' sites or the Microsoft Store, not from a torrent or a download page; official providers do not bundle extra software.
- When an installer offers Custom or Advanced setup, choose it, read each step and untick extra programs and pre-ticked offers, however trusted the source seems.
- Keep Microsoft Defender SmartScreen on, or Chrome's Enhanced protection: both warn before known malicious pages and downloads. A security program from a known maker also helps block malware before it runs.
- Keep a current backup of your files (File History or OneDrive), so an infection or a failed disk does not cost you your documents.
- On public networks, a VPN hides your IP address from the sites and ad networks you visit; it does not block ads or malware, and it does not make a download safe.
Don't
- Click Allow on a page that says you must allow notifications to continue, to prove you are not a robot or to see a download.
- Install anything offered by a pop-up, banner or redirect, whether it calls itself a VPN, a cleaner, an update or a security tool.
- Run an
.exe,.msior.scrfile that a film, show or song torrent gave you. - Click the large "Download", "Play" or "Start" buttons that sit around a torrent listing: they are ads, not the file.
- Believe a page that says your computer is infected or needs an update.
- Trust ads on torrent, file-conversion and adult sites: they are used for drive-by downloads and browser hijacking.
Safer ways to get what you are looking for
Our 2021 guide said to stay away from torrent sites and peer-to-peer services if you want the device to stay clean, and the FTC says the same of unfamiliar download sites and file-sharing sites. Start from the owner's own site: you get the file the maker intended, with no third-party ads between you and it.

Questions about limetorrent.info
Is limetorrent.info safe?
Not with confidence, and we could not see the site itself. On 6 October 2026 our clean test browser was taken to a live adult video-chat site without a click, so we never saw the torrent search page.
We saw no notification request on that one visit, which does not mean it never asks: ad pages often hide from automated browsers and change by country or by second visit.
The risk of such a site is mainly its ads and the files it points to, since a torrent is uploaded by a stranger. Block notifications, close ads instead of clicking them, and never run an .exe or .scr file that comes with a film, song or game.
Does limetorrent.info have a virus?
No, the website is not a virus, and opening a page installs nothing by itself. What people call the limetorrent.info virus is the redirects, pop-ups, notification adverts and changed browser settings seen around it.
Those come from ads, from a notification permission that was allowed, or from a program installed with something else. If your start page or search engine changed, look for the program or extension that did it:
- check Installed apps in Windows and your browser's extensions
- run a Microsoft Defender full scan and the offline scan
- then reset the browser
How do I stop limetorrent.info notifications and pop-ups?
Remove the site from the list of sites allowed to send notifications in your browser. In Chrome open chrome://settings/content/notifications, in Edge edge://settings/content/notifications, and in Firefox Settings > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Notifications > Settings. Delete limetorrent.info, limetorrents.info and any address you do not recognise, and block them so they cannot ask again.
Do it in every browser and profile you use. For pop-ups, add the site to the pop-ups and redirects block list. Nothing needs uninstalling for this; if the adverts keep coming from changing addresses, check the extensions and installed apps.
Is limetorrents.info the same site as limetorrent.info?
Not necessarily. The two names differ by one letter, and a domain name with an extra s is a different domain, even though people search for both as "LimeTorrents". Our 2021 pictures show limetorrents.info, while this guide's address is limetorrent.info, and we opened only the second one.
We cannot say who runs the other, what it shows or what it serves. A close name proves nothing, because anyone can register one and a clone can carry other ads or files, so read the address bar before you sign in or type anything, and never use a password you use elsewhere.
Can I unblock LimeTorrents with a proxy or mirror?
We do not recommend it, and we cannot tell you why a page does not open for you: your internet provider may block it, or the site may be down or moved.
A proxy or mirror is a copy of the site passed through another address, and whoever runs the copy chooses the ads and can change what a download button points to. We tested none of them.
The copies that rank highest for that search are usually the ones paid by the most aggressive advertisers. If you want a file, a licensed or official source is safer than any copy.
Why did my start page or search engine change?
A program or browser extension changed it, not the website. Programs that do this arrive inside installers for free tools, converters and cracked software, and they also add toolbars, slow the browser and send visits to ad addresses.
Check Installed apps in Windows sorted by install date, remove extensions you did not choose, scan with Microsoft Defender, and then reset the browser: that returns the start page, search engine and new tab to the defaults. Our 2021 guide said it is hard to tell when this happened, because the program loads quietly during an install.
Can a torrent site infect my computer?
Opening the page does not install anything by itself, but the ads on it and the files it points to can. A torrent is uploaded by a stranger, and only the uploader knows what it contains; cracks, keygens and full versions of paid software are where adware and trojans are commonly hidden.
The FTC lists peer-to-peer file-sharing sites and unfamiliar sites that give away movies, music and games among the ways to get malware. A video should contain a video file and subtitles; an .exe, .msi or .scr beside it is a program, and it should be deleted without opening.
Is it legal to use limetorrent.info?
It depends on what you download and where you live. Downloading a film, episode, album, game or program from a torrent without the owner's permission infringes copyright in many countries, and some internet providers pass on warnings. Torrents of public-domain, open-source and openly licensed files are different.

What is the safest way to get what I am looking for?
Start from the owner's own site or a licensed service. Open-source programs and Linux systems come from the project's own download page, and many offer an official torrent.
Films, shows and music come from licensed streaming or purchase services, and your library may lend them for free. Old public-domain films, books and recordings are on the Internet Archive.
Games come from the publisher's store, Steam or GOG. For paid software, ask the maker for a trial instead of a crack. You get the file the maker intended and no third-party ads between you and it.
