Smart PC Mechanic disguises under the veneer of a useful app

The picture displaying Smart PC Mechanic

Smart PC Mechanic is presented as supposedly useful and efficient PC optimizer. The official site may be quite persuasive to lull credulous users that the tool will boost up their PCs to a new level. On the other hand, this registry cleaner is just one of countless futile apps which seek to wheedle out your money for cleaning fake issues this app informs you about.

The category of similarly questionable PC optimizers keeps expanding. Though the majority of them do not poise a significant threat to the system, some of them manifest most irritating behavior. For instance, such as PC Smart Cleanup is promoted via online tech support scams[1].

Furthermore, Microsoft has published clear statement[2] that it does not support similar registry cleaners in any way as they often meddle with system registry keys and, therefore, may inflict serious damage on the operation of systems.

Labelled as PUP

Speaking of Smart PC Mechanic, it does not leave the reassuring impression either. In fact, the analysis results in VirusTotal[3], suggest that the spcmsetup.exe, the executable of the program, is not only flagged as potentially unwanted but as the app containing the trojan as well.

Due to such fact, some may regard this program as Smart PC Mechanic virus. Such definition is not a correct technical term for it. Nonetheless, without doubt, it is the unnecessary tool for your computer.

In short, once you install the program, it will perform a quick scan and display the counterfeited alert that multiple dozens of issues have been found and urge you to fix them by purchasing the full version.

During the presence of this application, it is likely to interfere with the activity of your browser or security alerts. In addition, while browsing online, you may notice pop-ups suggesting to install their another useless application – Master PC Cleaner. All in all, Smart PC Mechanic removal is a better option. To ensure no registry entries for this PUP remain, you may scan the system with Reimage or Malwarebytes Anti Malware.

Distribution method of the app

The registry cleaner is available on the official website. Besides, it might be promoted as optional program along with free file converters or media players.

Therefore, in order to evade such unnecessary and troublesome apps, pay attention to the installation wizard. Despite what source you download an app, examine its “Custom” and “Express” settings and remove the checkmarks from irrelevant add-ons. This distribution method is another argument to remove Smart PC Mechanic from the operating system.
