VideoStripe pop-up ads Removal Guide

What is VideoStripe pop-up ads?

VideoStripe uses aggressive and misleading marketing strategy to promote movie watching platform

Screenshot of VideoStripe website

VideoStripe claims to be a platform that allows watching movies legally. However, this service is advertised using aggressive tactics, such as adware program. Thus, if your Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer is flooded with pop-ups[1] offering to sign up and watch unlimited movies, you should check your computer’s state.

Usually, adware which is responsible for VideoStripe ads starts bothering you after installing a bundled software.[2] What is more, Media-fire.org advertising platform has also been involved in promoting this software.

VideoStripe virus delivers ads that are misleading messages that are used for promoting affiliate websites and popularizing certain software. These pop-up messages may continuously ask you to sign in and try or download this movie watching application. These offers are extremely annoying because they might be full page advertisements or pop-ups that do not include a close button.

However, before installing it, you have to beware that it's not free. People are offered a VideoStripe free trial for 7 days, but after that, they will have to pay for it. The monthly subscription is around 40€ that is quite expensive. Thus, if you want to watch latest movies, you should choose cheaper and more credible platform, such as Netflix.

Some users claim that they were tricked by the so-called VideoStripe scam. Ads usually tell that this service is free. However, once they sign up, they realize that they need to pay in order to continue watching movies. Indeed, the main purpose of this aggressive marketing campaign is to promote this service and get more users who are willing to pay for the subscription.

All in all, if you have started seeing these pop-up advertisements, we recommend you to run a full system scan with FortectIntego and remove VideoStripe together with suspicious programs from your computer in order to avoid various inconveniences.

Moreover, we would like to mention that adware, in general, is distributed along with cookies[3] and used for accumulating information about user's browsing habits. We assume that VideoStripe adware is not an exception. We believe that it's not set to collect personally identifiable information;[4] however, you can never know what specific information may be gathered and where it may be used.

Thus, VideoStripe removal also helps to protect your online privacy from unknown third-parties. You can never be sure if aggregated data won’t be shared with unreliable affiliates or evil-minded people. The worst scenario is that some sensitive information might be leaked to cyber criminals. Hence, you might have to deal with serious problems, such as money loss or identity theft.

Adware travels and gets inside computer bundled with free applications

As you already know, advertisements promoting VideoStripe are caused by an adware-type program that may get on your computer bundled with free software. If you want to prevent installing such and similar programs, you have to be more careful while installing freeware and shareware on your computer.

Additional components are, usually, disclosed as web browser add-ons, plug-ins, toolbars, and extensions. However, they may be indicated in a misleading manner. In order to opt out of them, you have to:

  1. Choose reliable download sources and reputable developers.
  2. Read the Privacy Policy and EULA before installing software.
  3. Select Advanced or Custom installation option and monitor the entire installation process. This way, you will be allowed to take control over the process.
  4. Uncheck the ticks that notify about the installation of additional components.

According to NoVirus[5] researchers, computer users mostly rely on Quick or Recommended installation settings. However, trusting them is not recommended because most of the time they do not adequately disclose about third-party software and allows their installation without asking user’s permission.

How to prevent from getting adware

Choose a proper web browser and improve your safety with a VPN tool

Online spying has got momentum in recent years and people are getting more and more interested in how to protect their privacy online. One of the basic means to add a layer of security – choose the most private and secure web browser. Although web browsers can't grant full privacy protection and security, some of them are much better at sandboxing, HTTPS upgrading, active content blocking, tracking blocking, phishing protection, and similar privacy-oriented features. However, if you want true anonymity, we suggest you employ a powerful Private Internet Access VPN – it can encrypt all the traffic that comes and goes out of your computer, preventing tracking completely.

Lost your files? Use data recovery software

While some files located on any computer are replaceable or useless, others can be extremely valuable. Family photos, work documents, school projects – these are types of files that we don't want to lose. Unfortunately, there are many ways how unexpected data loss can occur: power cuts, Blue Screen of Death errors, hardware failures, crypto-malware attack, or even accidental deletion.

To ensure that all the files remain intact, you should prepare regular data backups. You can choose cloud-based or physical copies you could restore from later in case of a disaster. If your backups were lost as well or you never bothered to prepare any, Data Recovery Pro can be your only hope to retrieve your invaluable files.
