removal by Julie Splinters - - | Type: Stealing programs

As soon as I launched my Chrome web browser, I’ve apparently noticed the fact that someone has used my computer without my permission. I’ve found a trace of unauthorized usage on my web browser because instead of Google search that I’ve been using for a long time, Goodasfound.com search has been set by default. Most probably by accident. Could you please explain my could that be that hackers have scanned me and was working on my PC when I though it’s logged off? Thank you!

Is Goodasfound.com search engine related to the cyber criminals?

The report that we received a couple of days ago may make some of you laugh. However, we understand that people who are keeping valuable information on their computers are not keen on lettings someone using their computers without authorization required. Fortunately, we have good news for that user because the emergence of Goodasfound.com search is not that alarming. It does not indicate the fact that you’ve been scammed or that someone have used your PC. In fact, Goodasfound.com is a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that might have slithered onto your computer along with another freeware and hiding unnoticed until you have rebooted your web browser. Thus, calm down because there are almost no chances that any data on your computer have been affected. However, due to various downsides, we would recommend you to remove Goodasfound.com using ReimageIntego.

How does Goodasfound.com work?

Questions about Goodasfound.com

Goodasfound.com is promoted via free downloads. For example, if you would be attentive enough, you would notice such a notification during freeware’s installation: “By clicking the ‘Next’ button you agree with Privacy Policy and installation of Goodasfound.com homepage/search engine.” However, if you run through the installation and do not read any of the notifications, you may unconsciously accept the installation of additional facility. Consequently:

  • Your web browser’s default start page, search provider, new tab window, URL address, and default settings appear to be corrupted. Instead of Google, Bing, Yahoo or another search provider, you may be forced to use Goodasfound.com;
  • All web browsers respond vaguely, work slower than before installation of Goodasfound.com virus;
  • When you type a search query, you receive irrelevant search results. Usually, they contain sponsored links in the first place. Besides, the majority of the websites that Goodasfound.com redirects you are full of commercial and non-commercial advertisements;
  • Each of your web browsers may be filled with tracking cookies, what means that information that is stored on your web browser can continuously leak to third party advertisers. Here’s the basic list of information that is gathered: PC’s IP address, approximate geo-location, e-mail address, search queries, websites visited, content viewed, data entered in the websites, clicks, download/upload information, software/hardware information, browser’s type, language, and so on.

We want to emphasize the fact that Goodasfound.com redirects pose a risk to your PC’s security. As noted, “The Good as found site and search database contain a large number of links to external sites. Please be aware that these external sites are developed by people over whom we have no control, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.” Thus, you can never know what content is hidden under third-party links.

What actions should I take to remove this browser hijacker from Firefox, Chrome, IE?

Goodasfound.com hijack can be prevented if you would install free programs more carefully. The next time, don’t forget to select Advanced or Custom installation option and untick ‘optional downloads’ that are spreading along with the freeware that you have selected to install. If you are reading this post, then apparently your web browser has already been hijacked. Protect your privacy – employ a VPN

There are several ways how to make your online time more private – you can access an incognito tab. However, there is no secret that even in this mode, you are tracked for advertising purposes. There is a way to add an extra layer of protection and create a completely anonymous web browsing practice with the help of Private Internet Access VPN. This software reroutes traffic through different servers, thus leaving your IP address and geolocation in disguise. Besides, it is based on a strict no-log policy, meaning that no data will be recorded, leaked, and available for both first and third parties. The combination of a secure web browser and Private Internet Access VPN will let you browse the Internet without a feeling of being spied or targeted by criminals.

No backups? No problem. Use a data recovery tool

If you wonder how data loss can occur, you should not look any further for answers – human errors, malware attacks, hardware failures, power cuts, natural disasters, or even simple negligence. In some cases, lost files are extremely important, and many straight out panic when such an unfortunate course of events happen. Due to this, you should always ensure that you prepare proper data backups on a regular basis.

If you were caught by surprise and did not have any backups to restore your files from, not everything is lost. Data Recovery Pro is one of the leading file recovery solutions you can find on the market – it is likely to restore even lost emails or data located on an external device.
