Reasons not to keep MyMapsWizard Toolbar on your PC

MyMapsWizard Toolbar virus

MyMapsWizard Toolbar virus is a new questionable computer software from Mindspark which has been categorized as a potentially unwanted program [1]. When the tool is installed, it triggers the hp.myway.com domain to take over the position of a default search engine and homepage. That’s why this application has also acquired a title of a browser hijacker [2].

Nevertheless, the program is legal, and some users may find it useful. This toolbar is said to combine web search and driving direction straight on the Chrome New Tab. But there are a few problems that make this app potentially unwanted. But before we discuss them, we should remind you that you have a right to remove MyMapsWizard Toolbar from your PC if you are not happy with its services.

Some sophisticated antivirus software, say Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego, Malwarebytes or similar may detect the program as PUP, but if the system scan does deal with this toolbar and you still see it on your browser, you may as well carry out its elimination manually. Instructions how to do it are presented below this article.

MyMapsWizard Toolbar virus illustrationWhen MyMapsWizard Toolbar infiltrates your PC, it typically replaces your homepage with MyWay Search page or MyMapsWizard page.

Returning back to the My Maps Wizard Toolbar drawbacks, the first thing that does not seem to together with any trusted computer software are the insidious ways its developers choose to spread the program around. The app is attached to freeware and shareware applications, so it installs on the PC without necessarily asking for overt user’s permission.

Secondly, when this browser helper object is installed, it will automatically reassign your regular homepage to My Way search, and every search query that you type into the toolbar’s search bar will be redirected to the same site as well.

Finally, you may notice that your online search does not provide you anticipated results anymore and you are being constantly followed by tons of pop-ups, banners, and ads everywhere you go on the web.

These actions may not be sinister or harmful to your PC, but you should not ignore them or let them pass. You should perform MyMapsWizard Toolbar removal without delay and bring back order to your computer.

Preventing unwanted programs from installing on your PC

“Don’t want to see MyMapsWizard Toolbar on your computer? Then don’t install it!.” It’s a rather useless advice since, in reality, things are not that simple. Small-scale applications such as toolbars, extensions or add-ons can easily be hidden in software packages together with other programs or install as the user clicks on some random download button online. To stay safe, you should:

  • Always keep the real-time security shield of your antivirus software enabled and make sure that the program itself is legal and running the latest version
  • Stay away from suspicious web pages or insecure peer-to-peer software sharing platforms. Obtain new software only from the reputable sources as it diminishes the possibility of additionally added programs entering your PC.
  • Install new software via Advanced or Custom installation modes. Don’t hurry when going through the installation stages — you may accidentally miss the step allowing you to opt out MyMapsWizard Toolbar installation!

Tips for MyMapsWizard Toolbar removal

Typically, it should be enough to remove MyMapsWizard Toolbar from the list of your browser extensions. But there is a catch — this add-on installs on all web browsers, including MS Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari, so all these applications should be checked for the unwanted content and reset.

Sometimes, even performing the regular elimination actions may not be enough to complete MyMapsWizard Toolbar removal. Some of the program’s components may still be left on the computer, preventing its full elimination. Thus, we recommend scanning the system automatically as well.

You may remove virus damage with a help of Reimage Reimage Cleaner Intego. SpyHunter 5Combo Cleaner and Malwarebytes are recommended to detect potentially unwanted programs and viruses with all their files and registry entries that are related to them.

Access your website securely from any location

When you work on the domain, site, blog, or different project that requires constant management, content creation, or coding, you may need to connect to the server and content management service more often. The best solution for creating a tighter network could be a dedicated/fixed IP address.

If you make your IP address static and set to your device, you can connect to the CMS from any location and do not create any additional issues for the server or network manager that needs to monitor connections and activities. VPN software providers like Private Internet Access can help you with such settings and offer the option to control the online reputation and manage projects easily from any part of the world.

Backup files for the later use, in case of the malware attack

Computer users can suffer from data losses due to cyber infections or their own faulty doings. Ransomware can encrypt and hold files hostage, while unforeseen power cuts might cause a loss of important documents. If you have proper up-to-date backups, you can easily recover after such an incident and get back to work. It is also equally important to update backups on a regular basis so that the newest information remains intact – you can set this process to be performed automatically.

When you have the previous version of every important document or project you can avoid frustration and breakdowns. It comes in handy when malware strikes out of nowhere. Use Data Recovery Pro for the data restoration process.
