What is autoexec.vbs?

The autoexec.vbs file contains malicious code written in Visual Basic Script programming language. This executable code allows a parasite to alter system configuration, take over a control over certain software, collect and send out user confidential information, etc. The Windows operating system provides integrated support for VBS scripts, so autoexec.vbs has the potential to perform practically any task. Files similar to autoexec.vbs are used mostly by Internet worms, trojans and spyware.
The autoexec.vbs file is installed and used by trojan VBS.AutoExec. It is also related to other parasites such as trojan VBS.AutoExec. These threats can use autoexec.vbs for different purposes, as the file’s functionality depends on a particular parasite it belongs to.
In some cases a presence of autoexec.vbs does not mean that your system is infected. The file may actually belong to some fully legitimate applications and therefore must stay intact. If you are in doubt, please scan the autoexec.vbs file using you regular spyware remover or antivirus program.
