AllocateType is a mac virus that has browser hijacking and adware functionalities

AllocateType is a virus with hijacking and adware^[1] capabilities. It belongs to the Adload malware family and specifically infects Mac machines. It has both hijacking and adware capabilities. It can cause an increased amount of commercial content, like pop-ups, banners, and redirects. It may also change the main browser settings, like the homepage, new tab address, and search engine.

Distribution methods

Mac viruses, just like any other malware, are often spread through Torrent websites,^[3] peer-to-peer file-sharing platforms, and other third-party websites. However, these platforms are unregulated, because the distribution of “cracked” software is illegal. It is best to use official web stores and developer websites.

It might get costly, but you may save in the long run by keeping your system running smoothly. Virus infections can cause system file corruption and other issues. Besides, there are plenty of free apps to choose from, so you should definitely find something that suits your needs.

Another possibility is that you were tricked by a fake Flash Player update. Crooks create deceptive websites that prompt users to update or install Flash Player. Even though it was discontinued in 2020 and replaced by HTML5, many people do not know it. If you see such messages while browsing the web, ignore them.

Removal of AllocateType mac virus

You should not do this yourself unless you know what you are doing and what kind of files you need to delete. Some of the files can have a .plist extension which is a normal settings file, also known as a “properties file,” used by macOS applications. It contains properties and configuration settings for various programs.

• Open Applications folder
• Select Utilities

There are likely to be more .plist files hiding in the following locations – delete them all:

Remove the browser hijacker
